Remember the Public Defender that got caught lying about being a lawyer?

Well... Shocker - she failed the ETHICS part of the Bar Exam. I wonder if one of the questions revolved around the ethics of practicing law without a license?
This is how nutty, or ethically challenged, this lady is though.

Ashley Crawford twice failed the ethics portion of the bar exam she needed to pass to practice law in Louisiana. And twice she claimed much higher, passing scores to get a job representing indigent criminal defendants in Orleans Parish, according to new court records.

Problems for Crawford began in 2017 when she passed the academic part of the bar exam but fell five points short of the 80 she needed to pass the ethics portion, AG investigator Marc Amos wrote in an affidavit accompanying the arrest warrant.
When the state bar admissions committee informed Crawford she had failed the so-called Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination, she wrote back that she “was under the impression that she passed the MPRE portion with a grade of 95,” even supplying a screenshot of that score on the online account she maintained with the exam’s administrator.
The committee double-checked Crawford’s score, verified the 75 was correct, and on Oct. 13, 2017, sent her an email saying she would not be admitted to the Louisiana Bar Association, Amos wrote.
Crawford later contacted the committee and told members she had passed the MPRE a year later, in August 2018, with a score of 99, court documents said. But a 99 was “unobtainable and impossible to achieve” on that test, and she actually performed worse than the first time, getting a 69, Amos alleged in his affidavit.

You don't even have to study for that and if you do, you can max out at maybe four hours.
Random guessing can probably pass it

How did she take the Bar without first passing the MPRE to begin with?
Nevermind the fact that a blind and drunk monkey could get an 80 on the MPRE. Christ that test was a joke.

You could take the bar and take the MPRE after.
Few classmates did that. They would be admitted to the bar pending the MPRE.

I disagree. The MPRE is not nearly as tough as the bar exam or even the LSAT, but it’s no so easy a caveman can do it either. It takes some preparation, and Louisiana requires a higher score to “pass” than does nearly all other states. It’s not about what’s right, but what’s legal, and that can be murky. The answer is never the obvious evil answer or the obvious good one. It’s usually some kind of half-devious/flaccid regulation.
A blind drunk could not pass it. It takes at least some serious study for a week or two.

We're all different but that shite was easy.

The MPRE was BY FAR the easiest part of the bar, I don't know anyone that actually studied for it. We all just took it the first time it was offered after we finished the required ethics class, IIRC back then (early 90's) you had to have passed it within 2 years of passing the bar exam.
While I wouldn't say someone could guess their way to a passing grade since many of them were "trick" questions it was rather basic if you understood the general rules around the most frequent ethics questions. It was a helluva a lot easier than my ethics class exam.

MPRE is actually a pain in the arse but it’s nothing compared to Bar Exam

I honestly didn't know that. I thought passing the MPRE was a pre-req for taking the Bar. Oh well, at least I'm done with the MPRE.

Are you mixing up the state's ethics screening with the MPRE?
Posted on 8/26/19 at 6:30 pm to AbitaFan08
Most people take the MPRE during their 3L year, but some people take it after the bar exam.

Pretty sure Louisiana needs an 80, which is the lowest possible score of any of the 50 states.
I took the MPRE the morning of the “Game of the Century” in 2011 and was a little preoccupied...made an 80 and was only bummed because I knew I would have to retake it to get licensed in any other State
