Perhaps you have forgotten about “Celebgate,” when hundreds of nude photos of famous women, including Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton, were stolen from their Apple and Gmail accounts and shared across the shadowy back corners of the Internet.

Ryan Collins, a 36-year-old from Lancaster, Pa., has agreed to plead guilty

In his plea agreement, he details how he posed as Apple or Google administrators using official-seeming email addresses, like “e-mailprotection138@icloud.com” and “secure.helpdesk0019@gmail.com” to trick women into giving him their usernames and passwords. He then used those to search the victims’ email accounts for intimate videos and photos and other private information.

Collins used this scheme to hack about 50 iCloud accounts and 73 Gmail accounts between November 2012 and September 2014. Most of his victims were female celebrities

I mean, who does that? I always wondered who fell for those phishing scams.

Is it really hacking if they give you the keys?

If Erin Andrews gets $73 million, how much will all these other's get...assuming the 36 y/o has emailer has the means to pay anything at all.

I believe the technical term is phishing (think old AOL days) or maybe even social engineering (Kevin Mitnick).

Erin didn't go after the culprit. She went after the hotel. These celebs would have to go after Google or Apple and good luck with that.

Wasn't the media in an uproar, how could Apple and Google security be so lax, and how easy it was for hackers in backdoor infiltrate their systems?

By offering this new security measure, Schwartau says, Apple is essentially admitting that a brute force attack helped hackers gain access to celebrities’ passwords, and that they likely used a password generator. By adding the new authentication, he says, Apple is making it harder to do a brute force attack.

Not a good year for women and information security... these babes have about the same grasp on the concept as the Democrat frontrunner.

So i guess the thing to do now with a scandal is just put "gate" at the end of it to make it look more controversial
