Looking for a place to settle down in about 18 months when I retire from military and return to US. Just south of Jacksonville/north of St Augustine looks nice with good public schools and nice houses for $350-$500k

2 kids will be entering 6 and 4th grade when we move.

Anyone know the local schools and neighborhoods?
Is the area nice? Places to avoid?

I have a home at St Augustine Beach. It’s a wonderful place to live. Anything on Anastasia Island is desirable.

My buddy lives in Ponte Vedra Beach right near the county line. He’s rich AF though and it seems like an awesome place to live.

Yes... they're all pretty nice, if you avoid the outskirts of downtown st Augustine. Nocatee, world golf village, st johns, and rivertown/orangedale are all really nice areas, but the cost shows up in housing prices. Ponte vedra is more beach/intercoastal waterfront and even more pricey than the areas near the st johns river.

My oldest son lives in St Johns County. He has 3 school age children. They love the school system. The Nocatee area is a newer development but is a few miles inland from the ocean. Except for this year (due to Covid) the wife and I rent a condo on Ponte Vedra Beach for a week in late July early August. Real estate in Ponte Vedra is very expensive.

We always enjoy visiting the area and I think it would be a great place to locate.

And, thanks for your service.

Have friends in St. Augustine who aren't crazy about some of the 'developments' there - increasing homeless population.

FTR, I like St. Augustine. Lots of history. Much more of a real feel then much of FL.

We live in Nocatee. Schools are good. The culture is a bit weird. The Publix has golf cart parking but there isn't a golf course in the area if that gives you an idea.

I used to live in St Johns Golf and Country Club. I liked it. It was part of a CDD which meant extra fees but that kept the property values up. At the time we built a lot of young families were building and moving in. The bus stop for elementary school only had to make one stop on our street to fill up with all K-5 kids

Less than a half hour to downtown St Augustine, to the beach, and to Jax. There are several thousand more homes in that area now than when we left.

Hindsight is 20/20 but I wish we had kept that house and rented it out.

I’m personally in St. John’s golf and country club. Great neighborhood. Anywhere off of county road 210 is very nice! This area is exploding with new growth. Another great area is Nocatee. Both are great areas with A+ rated schools.

It's a great area, I live in Jax. The only issue is EVERYONE is trying to move down there so everything is going up up $$$. The golf cart thing is weird, but convenient. You'll enjoy it.

Nocatee checking in. I am living the lifestyle as they say around here. You will love it here. I am seven minutes from the ocean and 20 mins from St.Augustine. If you work in Jacksonville like I do the infrastructure around St.Johns county is top notch. I work about 30 miles from my house but it takes about 25 mins to work because it is pretty much all highway. The schools in St.John's county are the best in the state of Florida so there is a lot of people wanting to move here from all over the country. I have neighbors from Seattle, Atlanta, and Miami they moved here due to schools, no state taxes and the area. Houses can get pretty expensive but your home value will increase in no time when you get in. BTW whomever said no golf course around here for the not to diehard there is a 9 hole course on Palm Valley rd and for the pros the players course in Ponte Vedra is legit and $$ also St.Johns golf and country isn't that far away. Anyway welcome to my hood

Check out Eagle Harbor in Clay county. Moved here 17 years ago. Love every minute thus far! On the West side of the St. Johns river.

Only thing about clay county is the traffic going to and from eagle harbor and Fleming Island. Being close to the Naval Air Station which is kinda hit or miss with the people living around there. Clay County does have very nice schools though.
