Riverside (future birthplace of James T Kirk) is about 50 miles due west of Davenport. Check it out if you're a Trek fan.

ETA - friend used to live in Ames. Only place I've seen cross arms along the Interstate for when it's closed due to snow. That should tell you volumes about winter.

Summer is no better than south Louisiana, just shorter.

A lot of corn fields in Iowa. That’s my experience anyway. Probably one of the most boring states if I had to guess.

Just know that the entire state of Illinois is controlled by Chicago.
I lived in Illinois for a couple years. Couldn’t get out fast enough. Mostly was due to weather.

It’s been 7 or 8 years for us, but the taxes evened out across the state line when you factor sales, income and property.

Most in-town folks live in Bettendorf.

Air quality is an issue as you move closer to Muscatine.

That area has surprisingly bad rush hour traffic - especially if you have to cross the river.

That's a rough area. You'll have to think outside the box to survive there.

Here's an idea to get you started: an internet cafe for dogs. You can call it "Wagging Tails and Epic Fails."

Illinois has no capital loss deduction, no itemized deductions, higher sales tax, and higher property taxes. I’m sure I could go on...and on...
