Yep cars have gotten better. 100,000 miles used to be a big deal. Now people hit 300k.
But everything else is much worse. Maybe TVs are better now with LCD tech?
Fridges are absolute junk. Replaced one after 2 years and the one I replaced it with lasted 4. Washers and dryers aren't nearly as good either (though better than fridges).

Idk about fridges but i love my old style washing machine. The kind that fills up with water.

My wife is 67 years old and all of her parts still work.

Well, you better go catch it.
It has a helluva head start.
I remember the PSA's back in the day, retards locking themselves in those fridges and finding out.

GE…I wonder if their modern products stand up…
Better hope they do because GE’s about cornered the market on jet aircraft engines.

Before flat screens we had the same tube t.v for 30 years.
People that are saying the old appliances are less efficient...less efficient how exactly. I'd say it's less efficient to replace them every 5 years.
All my major appliances are from the 70s and 80s and my power bill isn't any higher than anyone else's. I'm sure they are a little less efficient on energy but not by enough to justify owning appliances made out of Chineseium.
People always complain about boomers wealth. Well... when they bought a major appliance they just bought it once and it lasted the rest of their lives. They would have never bought a fridge that would die in a few years.
Yes...I fill my own ice cube trays. Never had a fridge with an ice maker nor do I want one. I have what I want. A fridge that always works.
I had a cheap fridge in my shed for a few years. The fan assembly burnt out and ruined all the food just 5 years after I got it. I heard the fan going out but it was too late the whole inside of the freezer and fridge was coated with black electrical soot

We never talk about the environmental impact of cheap Chinese shite
Certain people get all wound up about how much electricity the old units use up and their not energy efficient, or use a refrigerant that is not "climate friendly" , but how about the enormous amount of landfill space newer, cheaper, planned obsolescence, appliances use up?

My mom and dad bought an old round front Frigidaire used before I was born in 1959. Pretty sure they only paid $50 for it.
After my mom went back to college, and we were rich, because they were both working, she got one of those avacodo one in the late 70's. Nothing was wrong with the Frigadire, but you had to manually defrost the freezer every so often, and it was small.

Very similar memory. Frigidaire, Avacodo, manually defrost freezer, etc

I had a Kenmore sidexside I bought in '85 that was replaced in 2020 that was still working like a charm but we remodeled the kitchen, it didn't match other machines in the kitchen. Had to replace two ice makers during those 35 years was all I spent on it.

My grandpa had an avocado green refrigerator.
The house burnt down
We replaced the cord and last I know it's still running.
Wrote a damn song about it. I think inspired by someone on here
Avocado Green
Vs 1:
Well it hummed there in the back shed, of my grandparents's porch,
By the water heater and the cans of valvoline,
And I remember thinkin', in that world of way back when, they could've picked a better shade than avocado green,
Chorus:
Avocado Green, such a mean machine,
And he didn't care, bout the wear and tear, or that she was old,
Art deco curves, yeah boy she purred,
But he beamed with pride, said, son look inside,
The beer's, ice cold,
she's still good as gold, once you open up the door,
But they don't make nothing like her anymore,
Verse 2:
Well I was prob'ly 9 then,
and she was thrice as old as me,
We filled her up with bluegills, from his pond out back,
And over the years, he drank many a beer, from that Avocado Green,
And his "dead soldiers" he would line up, in a stack,
Yeah I grew into a teen, with that Avocado Green,
I snuck my first beer from there, I think he knew,
Well we laid him in the ground, but that fridge still hung around,
Yeah the house burnt down but I'll never forget that hue
Chorus:
Avocado Green, such a mean machine,
And he didn't care, bout the wear and tear, or that she was old,
Art deco curves, yeah boy she purred,
But he beamed with pride, said, son look inside,
The beer's ice cold,
she's still good as gold, once you open up the door,
But they don't make nothing like her anymore,
Bridge:
Well we pulled her from the rubble, and the smoke had turned her black,
And the plug had melted off from blazing heat,
But I hauled her to the old barn, although some called me a fool,
And said "leave her in that pile by the street."
With a Brillo and some elbow grease, well that green came shining through,
Scraped and galled but I installed a brand new cord,
And amongst the rust, and the piles of dust, I said a prayer and plugged her in,
I think grandpa grinned when back to life she roared,
Chorus 2:
Avocado Green, she's a mean machine,
And I don't care, bout the wear and tear, or that she's too damn old,
Art deco curves, yeah boy she purrs,
And I beam with pride, say, son look inside,
The beer's ice cold,
she's still good as gold, once you open up the door,
But they don't make nothing like her anymore,
