I see more and more municipalities changing the way that they collect recycling. It’s becoming more stringent. Plastics and metals need to be clean. Paper can’t have any food on it. No more pizza boxes etc. It’s causing some people to cut back on the practice.

China has cut back on what they buy from us so the business side is less profitable. More and more of what we thought was recycled has been going into landfills.

All I recycle now is some paper, some aluminum and maybe some plastic but I throw a lot more in the trash now.

A neighbor on nextdoor is always reminding people of what can and can't go in the recycling bins, and how the cans should be positioned waiting for pick up. It's so annoying it makes me not want to recycle.

I've never really recycled much. Maybe Amazon boxes. I was ahead of the curve.

God, I wish this was what people posted on NextDoor for me. Its a bunch of old people bitching about stupid shite and being openly racist.

How would they enforce this? In EBR the truck comes around and picks up your can with a robo arm. You could throw whatever the hell you want in it.

If you have Prime, there is a series called "bullshite" that has a recycling episode, I wanna say season 3.

It's worth watching.

I basically just throw amazon boxes in recycling now... and only reason I do is to save room in my trash can

yea i have had two consecutive weeks of rejected recycling. they put a "contaminant" sticker on the bin if it's not correct.

reading the list of what is still recyclable, and watching this video, i find that the biggest changes are no more glass and no more plastic bags of any kind.

not even trash bags. they are encouraging people to just dump recyclables loosely in the bin. bummer about glass and bags. but at least the plastics that are still recyclable, are the major types (#1 and #2). that still includes beverage bottles, cleaners, detergents, condiments, milk jugs, cooking oils, etc.

the plastics they don't take anymore includes mostly bags, lids to other containers, to-go containers, tupperware, solo cups, and some other random items.

They put a sticker on the can that says “rejected”. I had enough of that nonsense.

My neighbor told me that they changed recycling companies. He also told me that the old company was just dumping most stuff in landfill.

What a ripoff

Plastics and metals always needed to be cleaned. Food residue isn’t allowed. The requirement is because of the machinery that is used.
This is nothing new.

I've had mine rejected in BR in the past a few times but not with a sticker. Granted it had a lot of unapproved items in it. They'd just leave it full with the top open.

All I'll put in there now is broken down boxes. The rest will just go in the trash.

This app is worst than Facebook. I signed up for it and within a week I deleted it. I couldn’t take the non stop drama 24/7

As for recycling, I just throw all my junk mail in the can. Probably put it out to collect once every 4 months or so

Recycling non metallic material has never been profitable with subsidies. As stated above, before China was buying all of shite but they aren’t anymore and the subsidies are starting to dry up.

yeah well they used to take everything I put in there. I never cleaned peanut butter jars or washed out my bean cans. Not gonna happen.
But I always put them in the bin.
And they took them away.

Now they don't.

Just because they actually took them away doesn’t mean they are actually being recycled. At the recycling center the recycled items have to be sorted. And items that can’t be recycled (food debris etc) are pitched.
