In our previous home, we had a GE all in one washer/dryer. Complete piece of shite. When we got rid of it, I chained it to my Jeep and drug it out to the street. It was basically brand new since over the course of 3 years I had to replace damn near every part in it (some multiple times).
Replaced it with an Electrolux combo and LOVED it. Sold it with the house since the buyers offered more for it then we paid for it. Electrolux if you’re on a budget, Speed Queen if you want something to last a lifetime.

Buy a top load washer without the agitator (way bigger tub volume) and a front load dryer. We have LG for both and have worked great.
We had a front load washer and could not keep the mold out of the door area. Heard this from just about everyone I know that has owned a front load washer.

Those are probably the worst washer/dryer appliance their is. The Newer GE stacks are shite. The old ones were good but they were co-developed by Frigidaire who makes the sturdiest machines.
The newer Ge wash tubs have a seal failure and it causes so much transmission damage and those parts are so hard to remove that any tech will just replace the entire lower drum at a cost of $400 rather than replace any component beyond the motor or shifter.
that and the LG fridge are the only units I have to prewarn people on.

Let me preface this by saying that I have bought 3 washers in a year. The whirlpool top loader that had no agitator did not even clean anything we put in it. In fact, everything was actually dirtier that when we put it in. That went back to Costco. LG front loading washer display model was next. It ripped things because there was and edge to the tub that seemed to snag towels. Cleaned fine but ripped things up. Third the Speed Queen. It is better than the other 2 but still rips things and doesn't clean everything super great either. I was told that before 2015, the Speed Queen brand was much better than now.
So, to summarize, every appliance sucks now just research the best you can and hope for the best. They are pretty now but most don't function.

I pimpSpeed Queen left and right, but I have had the same LG set that I got for free broken in 2013.
I wanted a Speed Queen. We went looking at them at Stantons a few weeks ago when we replaced our washer. My wife had issues with the 3.2 cu ft tub which was all they had. We needed one that day too. I ended up buying a Maytag. It will probably be junk though.

I went with speed queen classic, TC5 6 months ago. Old school, heavy, noisy. Love it

I don’t know what’s good, but I know Samsung sucks.
If someone offers you a Samsung set for free, throat punch them and know that you did yourself a favor.

I bought a speed queen front loading washing machine a couple years ago. It works great. You do have to run it once a week or so or it starts to smell like mildew. (normally not a problem, but when you get home after a long vacation its gross. I run an empty cycle with some bleach and that cleans it up.)
After living with it, I don't see any advantage to front load and will go back to top load if this one ever dies.

quote:Agreed. We got rid of our working-just-fine front load washer because it was almost impossible to keep it from mildewing. We had to wash and scrub the tub weekly. Eff that!
Front load washers are hot garbage.

Agreed. We had one for a few years and other looking nicer they didn't go anything better than an old school top loader with an agitator.

Friend had these, wife said she liked them, when our house was built bought same thing. Seem to work well, wife is happy, housekeeper seems to use them fine.
When I need to de-wrinkle a shirt its got a 15min steam cycle that does the trick, they probably all do that now but its handy.

but it’s been just 11 years and done, so I’m questioning their reliability these days
11 yrs is actually awesome... the days of 20+ yr appliances are long gone

Front load sucks for reliability! Actually old agitator ones clean the best

Appliances used to last even longer than that. My dad still owns my grandparents house. I've almost 43 and don't remember them ever having another fridge, dishwasher, oven, stove, microwave or washer and dryer. They all still work fine.

Most American brands up to recently you had to tear down the entire machine to acess the coin catch.
