has anyone DEF deleted their BMW around Baton Rouge? My wife has a sensor going out in her X5 and looking to DEF delete instead of spending 5-6k to change the sensor.

Get rid of it.

There's no point in going through the bullshite of dealing with deleting a diesel these days. Its far more headache than it's worth and you run the risk of incurring the wrath of the government.

Its going to cost as much or more to delete it as it will to fix it. Either trade it in as is or fix it and sell it.

1. I didn't know beamers were diesel.
2. A sensor costs 5-6k? Wow!!!

Probably have to take the car halfway apart to get to it.

You'll need to order something like below, find a shop that will do it and then find someone to tune it so the vehicle doesn't throw codes.

Problem is that the Biden administration and EPA went after all of the tuning services, mechanics and companies like Cobb that serve this market and slapped them with million upon millions of dollars in fines. You're going to have to find someone that's very quiet about doing this work. Even with the change of administration, the EPA is still aggressively going after people operating in this space.

ETA: This is about a 10 hour job to do, minus the tuning. Inclusive of the parts, labor and ECU tuning, you're probably still looking at around $4-5k to have it done

And the risk of it being done and blowing the engine guts out everywhere and you being on the hook for a shitload of repairs with no help from anyone.

BMW is about to have a catastrophic fall into oblivion and all the BMW owners are going to be mad at their equity losses in their vehicles.

Welcome to long term BMW ownership, she'll need to pay the piper or sell and buy another.

Fix it and get rid of it, if you are inclined to do so. There are too many reasons to fix it. The most prominent are, it’s illegal and you’ll find it very difficult to get break tag/ inspection sticker in the Btr area.

100%. Go this route and you are definitely going it alone.

Sell it to an arkansas baw. Our state doesn't have emissions.

I am stuck buying older model heavy equipment for this very reason. I was lookin forward to cheap excavators on the used market but they are all trash now due to the emission garbage.

Used to be a BMW fanatic, after briefly owning one I won't feel sorry one but if they go out of business.

Well...can you elaborate. I just removed a system from a bus that had injectors in the exhaust to burn more fuel to clean scrubbers. Dumbest thing I ever saw. It runs better now and supposedly the engine oil won't deteriorate as quickly.

Buy some black electrical tape and put it on the instrument panel glass so she can’t see the sensor light.
