I fly, a lot, 50+ times a year, and half are 8+ hours.

I will always recline my seat. If the airlines did not want me to, they would not have put that feature in (see spirit). If the person behind me POLITELY asks that I move it up for realistic reasons, I would happily oblige.

I have only ever asked ONE person to move there seat up, for only a few minutes when they served dinner, but we had already chatted before the flight, so it was not a total stranger.

I've found Spirit flights to be great since the seats don't recline on the flights that I have been on so far.

you should alert the person behind you. If they politely ask that you not recline, you should not recline.

Weird. That little bit of recline is what makes my flights tolerable and my knees are never even touched and I’m 6’2”.

I guess you are short enough that it matters. I'm 6'4" and the reclined position is just as uncomfortable. If someone recline without warning they smash my knees. I usually just tell the person when we board, if you decide to recline, give me a heads up so I don't get my knees smashed.

Eta: most times I am able to secure an exit row, so it's not an issue.

Close....guess that makes me lucky when folks recline their chair.

Why are you setting yourself up for failure by putting your own bag in the way of your leg room you desperately need when you know there’s a good chance some a-hole will recline?

Like I said, it's not a common occurrence. I typically have some room to shift my legs. But on a couple of occasions, I've had to put a backpack or carry-on that limits the space. It sucks -- but it's not the usual.

Incorrect. You paid for the seat. The tray is for eating. It’s a LAPtop. Put it in your lap

Sorry you're 5-nothing and don't understand how limiting factors such as line of sight and rigidity of the human skeleton work.

Sounds more like you're a fatty and your lap is already occupied with your bulbous skin folds.

It's ironic how air travel is now less comfortable than a grayhound bus.

No one gives a shite about your comfort or mine. Recline your seat.

They have the thinnest padding of any seat I have ever sat on. The legroom isn't terrible, but I think they actually spent more money to find chairs that are less ergonomic.

My opinion is this: I hate it when people recline their seats, but they paid for their seat and it’s their right.

This guy gets it.

Want more legroom? Get another airline or first class.

Why bitch about the guy in front of you following the rules?

If you need more room there are ways you can pay the airline to accomodate you.

Oh they skimped on everything possible on those planes but for <$100 roundtrip tickets to TPA, MCO or ORD you really can't complain.

the only way to recline is for your seat to press against the knee caps of the person in the seat behind you

Except it pivots down by your kneecaps unless you are 6'4" or taller.

They don't recline because you have less room to start. Their seats are "pre-reclined."

Their seats have a 28 inch pitch while AA and Delta's are 30 inches. Meaning the spirit seat you say is "great" is almost identical to an AA or Delta seat while the one in front of you is reclined.

As a frequent flyer what I do is look over my shoulder to see if the person behind me is sleeping or working on a computer. I typically only use limited recline UNLESS I am in the last row of first class. That allows me to fully recline without impeding the person behind me.

No doubt. I stopped flying because saving the $5-10 over AA or Delta was definitely not worth it.

They are consistently cheaper, but in the grand scheme of what a trip costs that little bit isn't worth it.
