Maybe not within city limits but there is a huge one in Baytown and I believe they are building one, if it's not already open, in Katy.

Needs to be near where there are a lot of kids that come from families with disposable income.

That wasn't really a problem with the location. It was that you had a similar venue nearby.

Would this do well in BR or would it be overrun with out of control teens?

A place like that is only as good as the clientele. Try going to Area 51 in BR. The parents just drop a group of 20 kids, then take off for the night

They're all going at it from the wrong angle. Here's concepts of what we really need.

TopMoney: Check cashing beyond your wildest dreams. Wings, Big screen Tv's, and DJ night while waiting for your payday loan. 24 hours a day.

LawBoss: Part personal Injury attorneys part WorldStar hip-hop part megachuch. Pick your lawyer then film a threat video about the in court beat down you're gonna deliver to the other driver. Come hang out on the free basketball courts and live entertainment. Where suing people is a lifestyle.

I've come across a few Pilots that are nearly on par with Bucc-ee's with everything except for the pointless stuff at bucc-ees

They provide pretty good jobs, considering its a gas station. The one here in Fort Worth starts out at $13 an hour. Shift manager is $18. That's pretty solid for that type of job.

All Bucees had to do was spend a few days visiting various gas stations, restaurants, and other retail businesses in BR to see just how shitty customer service is in this city/state. They knew they wouldn't be able to find the personnel they needed to be successful. It's the same reason we'll never see a Quick Trip.

then how does Cane's and Chick-fil-a find workers?

Fwiw, I had someone with supposed ties to the Bucee situation tell me that the real reason Bucees backed out is because they basically kept asking for more and more "handouts" from the state and/or city in helping them with the proposed facility in BR and for property for future facilities throughout the state. Eventually the state and/or city told them they could do no more, so Bucees Backed out.

It's just a big gas station. They can't expect to be treated like IBM or Dow.

Alamo Drafthouse

Something like this will probably come to BR eventually.

Movie Tavern has been open for well over a year already in Baton Rouge. The Denham Springs location has rebuilt and will reopen soon.

Alamo Drafthouse missed out on being first to the market, but I wish they hadn't. I'd love to be in the theater when some self-important prick whips his phone out in the middle of the movie and gets his arse tossed. That's worth the price of admission right there.

Seems like the safe answer.

But it's the wrong answer. I work in land development, and the BR market is doing well. 27 cases on the agenda for the Planning Commission meeting a month or two ago.

The I-12 stretch would have been ideal for sure.

I would guess once they got the ball rolling and communicated with the clowns we have in local government, they realized they didn't want the headache

I'm not sure about the others, but I heard this is what caused Alamo Drafthouse to pull out. There was a lot of hullabaloo about it causing a traffic problem on Perkins, and the city having to install a traffic light there. Also, the NIMBYs opposed it from the get-go. There was also a rumor that the guy behind Rouzan (Tommy Spinosa) wanted more money for the location than he originally quoted the Alamo folks, so they said frick you.

Baton Rouge really screwed the pooch on this one. Alamo Drafthouse is the shite. Movie Tavern pales in comparison. Alamo's no tolerance policy for disruptive patrons is worth the price of admission by itself. They wouldn't tolerate that BR culcha BS. Also, they sponsor all kinds of cool stuff like Rolling Roadshow, football viewings, Master Pancake theater, just to name a few.

This is one of the coolest things they've done: Jaws on the Water

LINK

Hopefully, somebody in BR will try to get the Alamo ball rolling again at some point. I have no doubt that it would do phenomenally well.

fast food isnt any higher up the totem pole than an upscale gas station.

I guess not technically but you have a small one on 290 in Cypress, just 2 miles down the road is Houston (outside city limits) and you have the huge one being built on I-10 in Katy. That looks to be one of the largest, if not, the largest. Maybe 200+ pumps?

Wasn't talking about the one in Baytown, which is nice and definately worthy of a stop.

I've been to many pilot gas stations and haven't seen one yet that resembles a bucees.

I took a deep dark shite last night at the local Buc-ees and it was so satisfying I thought about making a brag thread.

I consider Baytown to be part of Houston anyway
