If that's all it took, you're still an active addict.

Do you know how to work with your hands (build, create, fix things)? I have a background in sales and switched from white collar to blue collar. If you present well, show up and are even halfway competent, you can make very good money just doing things for people. I eventually transitioned to commercial construction and make obscene money. Tutorials are out there for anything you want to learn how to do. Use it as a side hustle while you are applying for whatever else and see if it turns into something.

Probably need to put more effort into this thread and the job search. Do you get interviews? Do you look or smell like an addict at interviews?

Become a pilot via simulator hours. Pay is shite, but imagine the respect you’ll command at casual get togethers

I imagine then that your resume has a four year gap - how do you address that in an interview?
You tell them “that was when I was carrying you.”

That's wrong. It is.
I agree with what the others have said. You got to stop everything first. Focus on AA while you just work a shitty job for a while. From experience I can tell you that's how it will work.
Marijuana maintenance ain't a viable plan.

you relapsed because you weren't working your program in AA...
as a fellow recovering addict and AA member, you and i know your statement is bullshite and just an excuse... my story is similar to yours, but i gave up my career as a pharmacist b/c the access to my drugs of choice were just too big a battle on a daily basis... i knew the only way i could quit and stay quit, for good, was to eliminate the access i had, so i gave it up... haven't practiced in over 2 years... now, i had a little run in with the Board and went to rehab and stuff, but i'm now in real estate and have no plans of ever practicing again, at least not in a place with access to meds...
i hope it turns around for you... i really do... i'm not in the advice giving business, so i won't, all i can do is tell you what worked for me...

The best that you can do, is fall in love?

Deal cards or spin wheels. Get your license and deal or be a croupier.

oh, i know... my wife is still practicing, and most of our friends are doctors or pharmacists, so i hear about it all the time... yeah, i don't miss it really.... from time to time i get frustrated b/c i know the salary and benefits would be nice to have again, but it's not worth the constant having to be on guard about my addiction/tendencies

NA was always just a bit too uh...rough is the word I'll use for me. I got my start there though.

Eh, it's not that hard if you're doing an honest program. I'm around quite a bit of the good IV narcs all the time. You just learn to adjust.

oh, i did adjust at one point... i was clean for 6 years, then woke up one day and wanted to get high... now, i wasn't working an honest program then, and so i relapsed for a couple of days, then a couple of months later, same thing... nothing crazy like i was doing when i was really active, but i did start to realize the access was just way too easy and the only way, for me, to completely avoid it is to not be around it...
i don't regret my decision, b/c it eliminates that variable, and makes my life that much more simple...

Gotcha. Well, you ain't missing anything but constant stress and a headache anyway. I'm looking to get out again myself.

i did too... back in 2013... never even thought of going to AA b/c i've never really been a problem drinker, so i didn't identify as an alcoholic then... wasn't til rehab where i put it all together that alcohol played a bigger role, even if i wasn't drinking a handle a day, or even very often at all, than i had led myself to believe...
