Take a look at the Kubtota residential series. I got one in 2014. Great machine. cuts an acre and a half of grass every week, quickly and easily. Even sat under 36" of water for 3 days back in 2016. changed all fluids, filters, new plug, fired right up, and still going strong. Solid machine in my opinion.

Will, as someone with a ton of experience on ZTs, I highly suggest you take this man’s advice.. put this on your spreadsheet

quote:

Make sure it’s not the hydro gear ezt transmissions Get at least the ZT-3100 or better

All things considered, this is where most of your expensive problems start... pay attention to the transmissions on the mowers. Everything else can be kept up with solid routine maintenance.. the transmissions are what sets models apart

If there is a bad boy dealer in your area, go check them out. They don’t get enough love IMO, and the pulleys being a problem is a farce an urban legend as far as I can tell.. the only times I’ve seen a bad boy with a pulley problem, the jackass left it out in the elements all winter, and bitched that his pulleys ‘locked up for some reason’

ETA: my local bad boy dealer is now carrying Bush Hog ZTs.. rest drove one the other day and LOVED it

I'm ashamed to admit this, but I have an Excel spreadsheet for make, model, specifications, features, accessories, etc.

It's a large purchase (for me). Trying to arm myself with the best information possible before I have to finance it for 84 months at 10.99 % interest.

Don't be. When I bought a truck, I even had cabin volume in my decision along with front and rear leg room, cabin width, and actual MPG based on average weekly mileage I do and under different conditions.

Also created an auto loan spreadsheet that had different scenarios such as length of financing, how much I put down, and interest rates and charges. I pulled that bad boy out against the seller and they were just like "well....okay then" and gave me what I wanted.

That was sheet 1

The bad boy 48 that has the Briggs pro series on it is a damned good mower for the money.

Changed spindle bearings at 6 years for 50 bucks. Changed all belts and blades as well and front wheel bearings.

200 bucks 6-800 hours on it.

I've set a budget of approximately $4,500.

Save that money to pay someone to cut it. I never thought I would let someone mow my yard until I got too far behind one summer when it would rain on most weekends and I started paying someone to cut it during the week.

I've never looked back and love not having to do it.

I work on two of these for a living. The Raptor is garbage, you will get what you pay for. Same spindles as a bad boy, may last 2 years tops. If you buy from Lowes, it will be very quickly put together by an associate with no idea what theyre looking at, and yes there are things that have to be adjusted and tightened during assembly. Step up to the Raptor SD if going Hustler and BUY LOCAL.
The Scag is BY FAR the best out of the 3 in warranty, build quality, and cut quality.
Gravely is overpriced considering the machine, most are also unreasonably heavy as well.

None of this is true. I used to work for a bad boy dealer. The spindles are awful and idler pulleys grind after a year or so. If you go up in model they arent too bad,but considering it is just a red hustler with a 20% markup, I would go Hustler. Same manufacturers, same pulleys, same spindles, same frame, same deck.

Bad Boy MZ Magnum

I have this mower in the 54" with the Koehler engine. I cut four acres every 7-10 days. I've had no problems with it in its three years of use. I change oil/filters/blades.

Previously I had a 52" residential Exmark. The Bad Boy has been better in every way.

No doubt it's a good mower, like I said it's just a red Hustler. The issue I have is the same product for more money, although bad boy tends to have more "bells and whistles" at lower price points (fancier seat, light kit etc...)
Also people give Kohler shite, but their 2017/18 smartchoke engines are seriously legit. (Minus the courage line) They worked some serious bugs out.

I wouldn’t pay that price for a 32” cut mower of any of those brands. You’re buying a name.

I’ve run the piss out of two different bad boys over the course of about 3-4 years and have not had one of those problems...

I service bad boys for the homecenters.
Even on new ones less than 10 hours the last three years we been changing spindles and pulleys.
If it was maybe 10 a yr for a market that would be no big deal on a new unit.
Seeing the amount of not broke in ones but new ones with this issue something is wrong.

Yup, they do not read the instructions when they assemble them. Half of them are not assembled correctly.

A good dealer will check deck level, check tire pressure some are blown up high for the crates, run the unit with blades engaged to make sure everything is ok, and then bring inside to sell.

I seen new units that sat out in the rain where water mixed with gas and froze the piston to the block. 99.9999 % of what we see is out of warranty things like carb issue as stores filled units with fuel. The units sit out front of the store for 6 months until it is sold with gas in it.

Not sure if posted but if you have fence to back yard(or using this to cut other's yards), 36" usually is standard to get thru fence gate. We have Hurley Raptor 36".

My riding mower just bit the dust, so I'm now in the market for a ztr. Looking at the 48" Raptor SD or Scag Liberty Z. What price should I expect find on the scag. Most dealers around BR aren't listing the price online.
