I've set a budget of approximately $4,500.

And based upon these, I'm considering:

Hustler Raptor # 42" - 937847
Gravely ZT-XL 42" - 915206
Scag Liberty Z 36"

The Hustler is approximately $2,799.00 and can be purchased at all places, Lowe's and serviced elsewhere at a local mower shop that is convenient to me. And if purchased at Lowe's, I could obtain a mover's coupon that would allow another 10 % off the sales price.

The Gravely is $4,374. It is sold at a local hardware dealer that is convenient to me and can be serviced there as well.

The Scag is $3,999. It is sold at a local lawnmower shop that is convenient to me and can be serviced there as well.

All three would be used as a residential mower.
All three have Kawasaki engines.
All three have Hydro-Gear transmissions.
All three have welded decks.
The Gravely and Scag are foot deck operated. The Hustler is not.
All three have drive spindles.
The Hustler and Gravely are 42" cutting width. The Scag is 36 " cutting width.
Hustler comes with a 3 yr. warranty, no hours.
Gravely comes with a 3 yr. warranty, no hours and 5 yr. warranty on deck shell and frame.
Scag comes with a 5 yr. warranty or 750 hours.

Are there any other brands that I should consider? Spartan is out of my price range and is overkill for what I need. Same with Dixie Chopper.

Haven't done my best research on Bad Boy (read they had pulley issues) and ExMark (read their lower end line is junk whereas higher end is great, but out of my price range).

The 36" cutting width vs. 42" cutting width ranks lower on my priority list in terms of what separates these mowers. I'm looking for something that is going to be reliable, won't beat me up riding and can be serviced quickly with readily available parts.

Thoughts?

I purchased the 42” hustler about a month and a half ago. I only have about ten hours on it so far, but I’ve reslly enjoyed it. My grass cutting time has been drastically cut... my hustler has a Kohler motor

I'll do my best to beat a lawnmower dealer up on pricing, but before I can do that, I value the OT $70K millionaires that ride lawnmowers for a living.

I think you’re way overthinking a residential zero turn purchase

How is the ride? I have read that it can beat you up. Does it have a suspension seat or does the deck allow for suspension?

I have a gravely ( the next level up with a 60” deck, but we keep up about 4 acres )and love it, Hutch’s will take care of you after the sale

I would be worried about buying a hustler from Lowe’s and then bringing it to Gautreau’s for service, I am sure they would get to it as soon as they could

I’ve read other people complaining about that but I’ve had no issues. I don’t have a huge yard so it’s been fine. No suspension on it... I bought it at pro power in a br

And you would be right.

I'm ashamed to admit this, but I have an Excel spreadsheet for make, model, specifications, features, accessories, etc.

It's a large purchase (for me). Trying to arm myself with the best information possible before I have to finance it for 84 months at 10.99 % interest.

Make sure it’s not the hydro gear ezt transmissions

Get at least the ZT-3100 or better

I love my husqvarna mz52 and got it just under 4K online, delivered 2 years ago.

Bought it based on this article. Mine has Kawasaki but they also have kohler

My exmark has been jam up. Residential Kawasaki 42" cut...

That being said I'd buy a hustler if I did it over again. Good mower. Better deck. The service center here sucks on exmark. The hustler dealer nearby is solid shop.

I've heard buy a Scag if you can. Superior bearings. Might just be for their commercial shite though.
