That's the dumbest idea ever. Say this was your kid and the school decided to "let the boys beat the crap out of each other" - your son gets rekt continuously and ends up with brain damage or a pierced lung.

Does that sound like fun as a parent? Try holding teachers accountable for not intervening then shite will get done.

Yeah man, brain damage is a huge issue for two 11 year olds getting in a scrap because one wants to be a little a-hole.

Then I as the father would go to his house, beat the shite out of his dad infront of the kid, and tell the kid it's his fault his dad just got fricked up. And that if he messed with my kid again, I'm coming back to beat his dad's arse again.

The O-T is probably the wrong place for this, but if this parent was a friend of yours, what would you tell him (if anything).

I would have my son bring it up to the disciplinarian. If that didn’t work, I would call the school. If that didn’t work, I would call the bully’s parents. If that didn’t work, I would set up a meet and greet.

My dad taught me to defend myself, so I never had a problem with bullies. The zero tolerance has taken away, IMO, a crucial part in a child’s life. If you can’t stick up for yourself, you’ll never get anywhere in life.

We've had several brawls in the high school over the years. All of them seem to involve years of hostility. I've often wondered if the little shits slap-punched each other in middle school, one on one, if maybe by the time high school gets around, this would not have happened.

Schools today have a “zero tolerance” policy. You have to ask them to enforce it. With suicides now they have no choice but it starts with the bully and his parents. They have to be notified and told about it immediately. Problem is these kids parents are the class moms or PTO parents that the school just loves. So they don’t wanna upset the family and just slap the kid on the wrist.

Went through it once and told the school they had one chance to make it stop before I came back with a lawyer. Never had a problem again and now the bully is even extra nice to my son.

Had this happen once when my son was 13 he made friends with a kid who had just moved into the district, and promptly started getting picked on by other kids. This went on for awhile, every time a particular group of kids would see this kid out on his own they would beat him up, steal his lunch, knock his books into the ground, whatever just to mess with him.

His dad went to the principal, didn't get satisfaction, he came to the school board (I was on the school board then and now) we took his complaints to proper people at the school, but that really just made the situation worse.

Finally I asked my son if he knew who the "leader" of these bullies was. He said yes. I gave the thumbs down and this kid got his arse kicked the next day. Bullying stopped.

This was 13 years ago, I'm not sure I'd go that route today . Call the police if the school won't do anything about it, they absolutely are required to provide a safe learning environment.

Maybe we need more counselors in schools, more nurses, and less stress. More PE, less testing

maybe we need to quit coddling students and providing nurses and counselors to begin with. MAybe we need to quit raising pussy children who cant cope with a common, longstanding (albeit often cruel and unpleasant) aspect of human behavior that generations of humans have survived and arguably benefitted from.
If people like you would quit suggesting stupid, counter productive, asinine things like "more PE, less testing, less stress", maybe kids would understand that a challenge- regardless of its form- is to be faced and overcome. Not mitigated by their parents or an excuse to go play kickball.

Tell your friend's son to fight. Like wait until they're not looking and sitting at a desk. Just go up behind them and pop them across the face with an iPAD.

Sounds like it wasn't a bad enough arse-whipping.

Social media has made bullying worse. The kid can't go home and escape from the bullying without it continuing online. I'm not saying I completely agree with this theory, but in some cases i suppose it has some merit.

Parents can do a better job

Don't let kids have social media.

Zero tolerance is bullshite. Schools often ignore the problem, and at some point the kid has no choice but to throw a punch to defend himself. Kid shouldn't be expelled for defending himself.

He obviously didn’t kick the bully’s arse enough. The key to to make an example of the first bully so others who might think of bullying you see that it’s a bad idea.
