Elizabeth Eugenia “Beth” Wells did not feel well after singing in the choir at the Church at Liberty Square in Cartersville on March 1. Later that day, the 65-year-old Rome resident told her daughter about her poor health. A sore throat, coughing and fevers came next.

She went to the Floyd Medical Center, where she was diagnosed with pneumonia and then discharged. Her condition worsened, so she was admitted to Redmond Regional Medical Center on March 7. Less than two weeks later, she died from respiratory failure and complications from COVID-19, the highly contagious disease caused by the coronavirus.

Among at least 13 Georgians who have died from the virus, Wells was the first authorities had identified by name as of midday Friday. As her organs failed and as her prognosis worsened at the hospital, her family consulted with her doctors and decided she should be removed from life support.

“I just unfortunately knew my mom’s wishes of not wanting to live on a ventilator,” her daughter, Hilary New of Rome, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Friday. “She had asked me if I could pull the plug, if it came down to that. I said, ‘I would cry, yes, but I would because that is what you want.’ My mom took that choice out of my hands.”

Please make sure you do this for your family

And in a world without Covid, we have dozens of these every winter.

This may be the bigger story. The first person with it was a male I believe in his 30's.

The Church at Liberty Square canceled services Wednesday night to sanitize its Cartersville campus after two attendees tested positive for COVID-19.

Posted on the church’s website, “A Note from the Church at Liberty Square” states, “We received an official word today from the Northwest Georgia Department of Public Health that there were two confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 that attended the Church at Liberty Square Sunday morning services over the last two weeks. Public health officials are asking church members to monitor their health for fever, cough and shortness of breath."

Some old lady in bum frick GA had Chinese Virus on 3/1?

This thing has already made its rounds across the country.

The time for quarantine was December.

May as well let the herd do its thing at this point and if old/sick people want to self quarantine then so be it.

Sorry for her family's loss.

No she died from the family taking her off life support. They killed her.

Unless she had a living will or gave them the authority to put her to sleep.

If you have pneumonia and any kind of flu/cov/rsv/etc, you are in for a fight.

I think we need better education overall for how all of this works. The things I've read about the flu and other pandemics the last week or so have been eye opening for me.

For example, it's sticking in my craw how we don't have more extra ventilators available. Coronaviruses aren't a new phenomenon, and people have been dying every year from these sorts of things.
Why wouldn't the CDC or whoever is responsible for studying these things be able to predict this? Not this virus exactly but something similar.

Whoever downvoted me can go check my post history on the Georgia board when I announced her death before it was reported by the state.... on the GA board CV thread.
