If I am flying out of the country, do I need Real ID with the passport?

Would love to be a fly on the wall at MSY security the first day they enforce this

For those worried about getting the real id. There is a checklist on the dmv website for what you can choose to bring. Fill it out and bring the list with you. It’s an official list when done.

Mine expires in a few months, I guess I'll cave and do it then
My license expired last year and did just that.
Scheduled an appointment and was in and out in less than 30 minutes. Even the DMV lady was a little cute. Passed up a bunch of people that didn’t have appointments.

This must be a difference by states thing. I did nothing extra and just renewed my license as normal.

Apparently you have to bring alot of additional paperwork for the Real ID version.

It’s not a lot of additional info but it’s more than a regular license.

Flew out of Orlando Intl last October... precheck line had 9 people in it... the regular queue was a 45min wait.... I timed it waiting in the terminal
Definitely worth it... let the plebs be plebs while I slam large marg and 3 tacos, while watching football

I renewed my Texas DL online in May of 2023. They issued me a new DL with the REAL ID star in the corner. I seem to recall simply including a SSN on the renewal app.

Same here, but it was way before 23. It sounds like it’s just a pita in La. for some reason.

Yeah it’s really not hard. You need a passport and your social security card or a local utility bill to do it usually.
I think people in Texas and Florida just forget how backasswards Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi governments are.

I had to show proof of residency to get my Real ID. That isn’t listed as a requirement in Texas.
But yes, it isn’t hard at all.

It is a total scam as I had a certified copy of Birth Certificate, and they would not except, needed original from Parish, cost $40. Now I have had a La. Lic. for 50 plus years with same # but that is not proof enough, typical Govt. BUll CRAP

I have a valid twic card. Does that do anything for me at the airport in terms of getting out of the regular tsa line?

We still have brake tags, tint laws, and toll-takers.
Obviously, we'd make this process as ridiculous as possible

Pretty sure you'll be flying the plane.
You'll start at $22 an hour, but OT is $33 an hour. In the money baby.
