Local DMV sucks. Renewed my license at a title place 2x ago and the last time I did it by mail.

Have a passport so never needed it.

Now that the title places can do the REAL ID, itll be much easier and faster to get.

The first time I tried to get a REAL ID, I was renewing at the hellscape that is the Independence Park OMV. I went to the OMV website ahead of time and made sure I had all of my documentation. I had my current license as one proof of residency, and an electric bill as the other.

After waiting nearly an hour, I finally get to a window. The OMV lady tells me I need two documents for proof of residence if I want to get a REAL ID. I explain that I’m using my current, valid Louisiana driver’s license as one. She says “no, that doesn’t count.” I explained that the OMV website very clearly states that it does count.

She looks at me and says “I don’t know what to tell you, I didn’t write the website” as if it was the website, not her, that was wrong.

At that point I punted and got a regular license because it wasn’t worth going back and waiting another hour. I wound up getting a REAL ID next time I renewed (I brought like 3 different bills that time to be safe) but I imagine there are a lot of folks who have had similar experiences and just said “frick it.”

TL;DR - OMV workers are incompetent (shocker).

I heckin love my real ID. It's so pretty with all the holograms and colours.

Well, then. Unless it’s changed U might not have one until I’m forced to make appt at dmv for license renewal. Last couple of renewals, it’s been online.
