Protective medical equipment made by US manufacturer 3M and bound for Germany was intercepted in Thailand and diverted to the US, in an incident a senior German official described as “modern piracy". The city of Berlin had ordered special FFP2 and FFP3 masks that are used to protect emergency staff and care workers from infection with coronavirus. The order was for 200,000 such masks, according to the German newspaper Tagesspiegel. Berlin's interior minister Andreas Geisel confirmed that the consignment had been “confiscated” in Bangkok and never reached Berlin.
quote:
“We consider that an act of modern piracy,” he said. “You don't treat your transatlantic partners like that.” The confiscation came to light after the White House tried to force 3M to export masks to the US from its hub in Singapore, as the federal government exerts its powers to secure critical medical supplies and gear needed to prevent the spread of coronavirus and treat infected patients.

3M this week resisted demands by White House officials to send about 10m N95 respirator masks being produced in Singapore for markets in Asia to the US, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter.

Germany is very interesting at this point (Pretty sure their death rate is only .05%) . Their data stands out in its difference with data from other countries. I’m hoping their numbers are close to the truth when the retrospective studies dig into the pandemic. It wouldn’t surprise me at all.

SJW's gonna have a hard time working up tears for the Germans not having enough masks

frick Germany. If they want masks so bad, order them from a German company. If they want them from a US company, they need to get the frick in line because we're going to get our first.

It’s also possible they’re counting their deaths differently

Germany actually has better diagnostic labs for this situation. Yesterday the word coming out of the UK was that their national health service is actually sending coronavirus tests to Germany to get tested because it’s quicker than using UK labs. What a disaster.

I suspect they are chalking up the very sick to other ailments whereas other countries are including folks already near death in their covid numbers.

The numbers are kind of weird. There's something funky with those numbers or they are doing something extremely right, would the mortality rate be significantly lower if we tested everyone? Absolutely, but that's not what Germans have done so there's something weird going on or they have done a fantastic job.

German death rate is 1.4%

It’s likely a bit of both. They did take precautions earlier than neighbors like France or Italy but it’s also likely they’re counting deaths differently. If a covid patient has serious underlying conditions they might not count them towards to virus death toll. But I’m sure plenty of places in the world are doing that.

They are very healthy, very high technology, and a people that are mostly willing to listen to leadership.
If anyone should have low numbers, its Germany. They don't really have any of the risk factors here like the USA with fatasses, Italians with old smokers, or the chinese.

Someone has never been to Germany. Those fat fricks. I know they’re gaming the numbers like they did with their emissions.

I wonder who is running the black op stuff for us?
CIA? Suitcases full of cash and private planes?
I can’t imagine the CDC has a spy service.
One of the cooler parts of this pandemic to me is the competition for flimsy little face masks
