I am heartsick for all those folks who lost their keepsakes and pets when they evacuated the standing portion.

They just left all their pets in there to starve to death?

Wow, I never even thought of that. I bet the cats lived the longest. At least the had mice to feast on.

It wasn't their choice

Might be the dumb choice, but I'd have gone back in for my dogs. Sign a waiver, whatever, I'm not just going to let them die in there.

I assume the area was guarded by police.

Reality check: there were only a very few animals expected to be inside: a gerbil, some parakeets, and four dogs and cats. The Sheriff's office made three separate attempts to recover them and couldn't find them.

I would have expected a lot more pets, but that's the number.

People's irreplaceable belongings (a loved one's ashes, your wedding pictures, your financial records, your pocketbook, wallet, jewelry, etc.). This is the stuff that's going to be hardest to handle, because it's the minutia that makes up our lives.

This is world trade center type recovery. Hopefully every family will have something left to bury.

The look on her face in pic and wearing the intuition/superpower shirt during interview shows she absolutely knows this.

Can you imagine the cat and mouse feeling she has over him now?

It’s sad what happened to the pets but at the end of the day they aren’t people and a lot of people need a reality check about that sometimes. It was a little sad one of the cats was rescued and only lived there for 10 days before the collapse. I bet he was like well damn I’d still be alive outside as a feral cat.

I have 3 golden retrievers and the moment I left the building they would have gone with myself and the wife.

I'm pretty sure the people who had time to pack took everything important.

Most were evacuated in the first 15-30 mins and that was after they scrambled up and down the stairs looking for ways out.

I saw reports of people saying they left their wedding rings on their night stands. Pretty sure most only got out with their PJs and their phone.

sadly... with the building now completely down and rescuers now having access to the whole disaster site... the death toll is starting to climb rather quickly

death toll now stands at 36

Strange the way people use the longer “myself” instead of “me”.

Not surprised about the cats. I bet most all of the dogs made it.

Most of the dogs likely knew on their own that shite was hitting the fan and were probably glued to their owners before the owners knew the building was going down.

The cats were probably just excited for the show and carnage.

10 more bodies found between last night and this morning... death toll now up to 46

there are now less than 100 people left unaccounted for... so maybe we're finally getting close to the end of finding out the exact human toll of this disaster

also... an interesting quote from DeSantis... putting out a theory that this building had design issues when originally built and that it was doomed to failure from the start

CBS Miami

quote:

As the wait to learn how something like this could have happened, Governor Ron DeSantis had this to say:

“Just having talked with people who are on the scene, people who’ve done stuff. I think this building had problems from the start, let’s just put it that way.”

That would be the worst possible determination for the survivors and families of those who didn't make it as far as "seeking justice" is concerned. The time frame to file criminal charges against the original architect(s)/builders has long since passed its statute of limitations. I have no idea if there is any recourse as far as a civil suit is concerned re: those entities.
