I have an immediate family member who has suffered from 2 strokes in the last 3 years. It's taken a hell of a toll on all of us. The road to recovery is a marathon, not a sprint. The bad days may often outnumber the good, but as time passes those tables will turn. Some days you feel like you went backwards but frick it, keep grinding, you will recover.

ETA: On a serious note, if you end up having to go to speech therapy of some sort, follow through with it. Your family and friends will appreciate it. My grandfather suffered a stroke and refused speech therapy and for the last 10 years of his life we could all barely understand him. It was very frustrating. Best of luck Phil.
