Ray Brandt Auto Empire sold to Gayle Benson, Troy Duhon

I know y'all hate NOLA.com but that's where the story is currently if you'd like to read it
The sale ends a bitter dispute which ended up in court between Ray Brandt's widow and their grandchildren over the succession plan which has gone on for the 3 years since his death
Obviously Gayle Benson is the owner of the Saints & Pelicans as well as now running the late Tom Benson's own auto empire
Duhon is the founder & owner of the Premier Automotive Group

The estate of the late New Orleans auto mogul Ray Brandt is close to completing the sale of 14 car dealerships and five collision centers in Louisiana and Mississippi, which make up the bulk of his estimated $300 million fortune.

Under the terms of the deal, the Benson group would get the Toyota dealership on Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Kenner, as well as the Mercedes-Benz dealership in D'Iberville, Mississippi, and the Porsche dealership in Metairie.
The Infiniti and Nissan dealerships would also go to Benson, according to four people with knowledge of the deal who couldn't speak publicly because of confidentiality agreements.
Troy Duhon's group would take over the other dealerships, which include two Volkswagen outlets, one in D'Iberville and the other in Harvey, Louisiana. Duhon would also get the Chevrolet dealership in Biloxi, Mississippi, and the Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram and Kia dealerships in Harvey.

Car dealership franchises can be lucrative businesses, though valuations of different brands vary widely.
The average annual earnings for a U.S. car dealership was $6.5 million in 2022, according to The Haig Report, which tracks data from publicly-traded auto dealership groups. Earnings in 2021 and 2022 soared compared to the previous five years, when they averaged between $2 million and $3 million a year.

Gayle Benson is a bigger puppet than Biden.
She was bouncing checks all over town before the met Tom.
No one is that lucky.

Amazing what a vagina can get you these days... She must have been a hell of a lay.

My boy Troy.

Has Gayle had to close Faubourg Beer yet? I enjoyed hearing they are struggling mightily.

Gayle Benson has no kids and no heirs. The team will be sold upon her death and the proceeds to charity. I wonder wtf really happened between Tom and his kids.

Ray Brandt had no kids. He married later in life, got cancer and died.
All accounts he was a good guy.
Wife has kids and grandkids, some of which are trash. The houses on Woodvine and Falcon have jacked up trucks, crap stacked, trailers, boats, ATVs, and deer blinds strewn about.
Pretty sure they bought Manale's as well and screwed that up, selling to Dickie Brennan last year.

Tom had to get financial assistance to attend St Alouyious, basically by begging the brothers.
For all of Tom's faults, and there were many, he was the very definition of a self-made man. He came from nothing and earned what he had.
His kids and grandkids were worthless POS who wanted all the play with none of the work, and he finally said enough is enough.
Having said that... the kids and grandkids are still going to get a lot of cash when the team is sold. Their trusts have a bunch of non-voting ownership interests in the sports franchises.

Well I guess Ray Brandt will no longer have the deals?
That family maintaining ownership was never going to work long term, this is probably best for everyone, before they can completely run it into the ground.
The article referenced the manufacturers having to approve the sale, if I had to bet, they were actually pushing the sale.

Tom was 100% mentally out of it when he restructured the will to cut them out but Louisiana politics has an unusual way to intervening.

How damn hard is it for these auto empire guys to write a concise will?

Gayle’s been adamant that she wants the team to go to the city/state. Should be interesting.

Really concerned that a majority of the large businesses local to New Orleans might end up in the Archdiocese hands when its all said and done.
