you couldn’t buy that land and build the building for $2MM. Both sides did well

Carl Batson's brother is a realtor with Beau Box, which may explain the price drop. His sister is former EBR Parish Attorney Lea Anne Batson.
ETA Carl "Andy" Batson is the realtor. Apparently he's the one putting up the money. Ed Batson has been involved in running several restaurants/bars so I assume he will be associated with this somehow.
Good call

Last In Concepts is a company built on big ideas. Our founders, Jack Warner and Brandon Landry, met in 1997 on the hardwood of Louisiana State University's Pete Maravich Assembly Center. As young boys growing up, each dreamt of playing basketball for LSU and both succeeded – it just so happened to be as walk-ons. It was during this time the dream for Walk-On's Bistreaux & Bar – their first restaurant – began to take shape.
Since opening our first Walk-On’s, we have developed and implemented three additional exciting and original concepts: The Roux House, Happy’s Irish Pub, and Schlittz & Giggles. Growth has been a constant in our dynamic company, having opened eight stores in eight years, with locations in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and New Orleans.

And lease part of their humongous parking lot to the brewery across the street.
it seemed so crazy to me that fleur de lis did not try to capitalize on the brewery when it opened up. At one point, there was a brewery, a pizza place, and a taco shop all within 50 yards of one another. Seems like they could have set up some kind of live music area on their property and made money for all three businesses.

Better have the same “Around the World” or I’m never going there again. You got one shot at this.

The all day aspect of LSU gameday screwed with a lot of BR restaurants. When I was a kid we'd hit there for lunch then head out to the game. You really can't do that anymore with the traffic and parking situation.

shitty, rude service
I never understood this being part of their shtick. I don’t go out to eat to get reprimanded over some bullshite, especially when I am not causing a scene or being disrespectful myself. Their arrogance was ridiculous; you’re a mediocre pizza shop in Baton Rouge not the goddamn French Laundry.

and it’s also an excellent price received for the land, a very old building and the IP for a closed business the previous owners had no intention of reopening

It was a cash only business IIRC. Those old owners definitely had some debt tied to their books that the IRS has been trying to chase down.

Went there once in 2012 with some buddies. Wasn’t awful but was not impressed.

originally put up for sale in March 2023 with an asking price of $4.5 million. Beau Box took over the listing for the building in September and lowered the asking price to $1.1 million.
Nailed that initial valuation

It was good. Even very good at times. But people fawn all over it like it’s the best pizza in the world and it just wasn’t.
Couldn't agree more. Went there once after graduating when taking my now wife to a game. It's bang average to BAD compared to some of the places here in south Florida and even some of the regional chains from the north east down here. Whoever fawns over that place hasn't eaten really good pizza.

This.
One of the few places I could get pizza with anchovies. Loved it.

Pastime is just vastly overrated in general. Nostalgia doesn’t make up for bad food and a shitty owner.
