I'd talk to your wife and agree to disassociate from the SILs... what those women are will be what their own progeny becomes- you don't need that around YOUR offspring.

So far as your conscience goes... Do a "pay-it-forward" or two next time you're in a fast food or convenience store and the people behind you have munchkins... when the sports ball kids knock on your door selling candybars, buy some... visit a lemonade stand- just something good for another child or children.

And obviously... teach your children not to be thieving cünts.

Some people have no morals.

I was in a restaurant bathroom years ago washing my hands after eating. After drying my hands I turned around and noticed a large wallet on the ground in a bathroom stall. I picked it up and looked through it for a license. It had a bunch of hundred dollar bills in it, probably over two thousand dollars. I grabbed the Texas drivers license out of it and walked to the door. Just as I was walking out, two thug arse black dudes walked in. I walked into the restaurant looking at the picture of the guy and trying to identify him in restaurant. I spotted a guy who looked like him and asked him, “Are you Joe Smith” (or whatever his name was) and the guy had a confused look on his face and said yeah. I said, “You dropped this in the bathroom stall. I don’t how much money is in there, but whatever is in it now is how I found it.” I gave him his wallet and his eyes were as big as saucers. He looked like he was in shock. He said thanks and I walked off.

He had no idea how close he came to losing that money if those black dudes walked in before I did.

It didn’t even cross my mind to keep the money, although at the time I wasn’t making much and $2k or more would have really helped me out immensely. I would have mailed him the wallet if he would have left the restaurant already. I presume he was a trucker because it’s a restaurant at a truck stop.

The only thing that kinda bothered me was that he barely thanked me. It was the way you’d thank someone for holding the door for you, not giving you your lost wallet with thousands of dollars in it. I didn’t expect him to give me a reward and I would have refused it if he would have offered, but just a heartfelt thank you would have been nice.

I don’t know, maybe he was just shocked.

I was really hoping this was son in law, is this the OP’s brothers’ wives or his wife’s sisters?

You need to physically take the money back from your SILs.

I'd say slap the shite out of them too but no point in catching a charge.

Do all you can to find the dad and the little girl and explain the situation and apologize profusely.

If you are still unable to, give the money to charity or to some random little girl (via her dad) if they look decent and like they need it.
