Random phone calls from all over the country...

The past week or so, I get 3-4 phone calls a day from area codes all over the country. I can't ignore them due to work, but when I pick-up, there is never anyone there and the line disconnects after about 10 seconds.
I am already on the Do Not Call list, but seriously, what can I do to stop this? Any suggestions? I cannot change my number bc I also use it for work.

It’s big brother checking in on you.

I get them too. Bridgette from Cardholder Services most of the time. It's to the point now that if I don't recognize the number I won't answer, if somebody needs anything they can leave a message.

I'm in serious violation with the IRS and local "cops" will be coming to my house to arrest me soon.

Sprint sucks. I've been dealing with that shite for a year or so. When I'm in a mood and feel like answering I'll say well hello I was hoping to get a call from IN-DI-ANA today , what the frick is up?

The bulk I get now come from the same area code I live in. Used to be all over but I guess they get better luck if they use a local area code instead of some off the wall place.

Yeah scammers don't abide by that. I get them from time to time too. Delaware, New Hampshire, Idaho, etc... I even had one from Kingston, Jamaica before. Frick these arseholes

the good news is you're getting a discount interest rate for credit you don't need from a person who doesn't exist.

I get these too. And calls from numbers with the first 6 digits of my cell. I ignore them and they never leave a message. It's annoying as hell.

We got one at the office the other day that said our Microsoft license was expiring and all our computers would be disabled.

This is what's starting to throw me, too.
I routinely get them from 225 and the first three digits of my number -- it always throws me thinking it could be a client or someone else who actually needs me.
So fricking frustrating.

I wish that was a law to prevent this aggravation.

I’ve started getting them a lot more in the last 6 months or so. I never got those calls before. Not sure if this is a byproduct of all of those companies customer data being hacked or what.

I get the same shite. Are you a business owner?

Get the Hiya app. There are other similar apps but it will tell you if the number is spoofing, spam/scam/fraud, or telemarketer. You can block the call from there. Seems to have help cut back on the number of bullshite calls that come through.

I, too, get these same calls. I live in Dallas, but my area code is still 504, so I still get tons of calls from 504 numbers that slightly resemble my own phone number. I find it hard to believe that so many people from back home want to talk to me.
Whatever you do, don't sign up for TrueCar with your cell phone number. That was one of those most annoying weeks of my life.

I never really got a lot of these calls... and then I put my name on the Do Not Call list. Now I get them all the time

I seriously average about 5-6 of these per day.

I think what is going on is people who use spoofed phone numbers to do there phishing calls need to get new numbers to use becasue old ones get blocked. So they spoof a number and call yours to see if you answer...then it hags up. Then they know yours is a good number and its used to spoof people. I say this becasue I got a call one day from someone asking why I just called them and hung up...but I had not. Earlier that day I got a few of these local to me calls with no answers.
I am going to look into that app.
