You sound like the girl that organizes a coat drive, goes to hand them out to the homeless but makes sure someone has a camera so she can put it on Favebook. Bleh. Nice thing that you did. I'd rather hear about your good deed from someone else though.

Nurse, while I agree no one should give for no other reason than the fact it comes from the goodness of their own heart, I think, because of the world we live in where people (the masses as a whole) simply follow what others do and there are times when people need to hear that others are giving. With that said, I would hope that whatever people give to, they do make sure it is a cause that does help people.
It really is sad that so many do take advantage of the "non-profit" status. One is example is the people who solicit money for the Sheriiffs retirement or whatever its call. The people who call and ask for money, they contact organizations to come to an agreement that if they are allowed to use their name they will give the organization 30-40% of what they take in. That means 60 or 70% of a person's donation goes towards nothing more than someone who is basically calling people and asking them for money.

That is true. That's why I don't get too upset when a celebrity is seen doing something good and pics are taken and posted about it. In many cases, the power of celebrity with some people will inspire them to also give to the cause the celebrity was giving to.
It's sad it's like that though.

Now and then,if I see a situation where I can make a real difference, I will help out. I don't give money to panhandlers,or anything like that though.
As a matter of fact,one of those situations, was how I ended up meeting my wife,and she still doesn't know exactly what I did.
