I try to do the little things all the time, but I really wish I had the opportunity to help people who are need more.
Honestly, I do not like giving to charities. I feel that whatever I give, at best 30% might actually go towards the cause, however; when there is a natural disaster I will give to red cross. But in general, I try to be a "kind" person, but not to the point people will take it for weakness.

With the fricked up world we live in, I was just making sure people were still being kind. I wasn't bragging, frick off.
ETA: I let let people live in my empty apartment during Katrina, bc I had no use for it. I don't "brag" about this shite, but I question whether other capable people are helping. WTF are you doing?

If you do them just to make yourself feel better, then you're a selfish a-hole

It's not a bad thing to feel good to be kind. I do it often and it's a good natural high to know you made someone's day.

Not just, but I feel great after. I don't do it with any plan of feeling anything. She could have taken the money and walked away and I would have been fine.

Why are people downvoting this thread? I think its a legit discussion. She isn't bragging about doing what she did, IMO it could make people think about doing it more.
If she would have started a thread "Today I gave a woman $20..." then maybe I can see the downvote. Many people do acts of kindness and do not want any attention for it, but on the other hand I think the more people hear about acts of kindness people do, the more people will do acts of kindness.

The problem is going out and doing them on purpose. That's selfish.
The very few times I've passed on helping someone I could've helped, it emotionally effects me for weeks after. I question who I am after that. Hell, I can still think of almost all of them. If I went out with the intention to do an act of kindness for someone, I'd feel like a sleezeball. I'd be doing it to make myself feel better about myself

Telling someone to frick off isn't nice :(

I help people on a daily basis. It's my job. I work at a nursing home. I could come brag everyday if I wanted to. But I just do the right thing because I'm a decent person. Bragging about being a decent person just makes you a tool. You want a pat on your back

“Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. 2 When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get. 3 But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. 4 Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

I actually enjoy leaving larger than average tips. I waited tables for all of a week so I know these people deal with some dumb people. Might as well tip them well to continue their happiness.
Chimes East has the dude who is missing an arm, I always tip him 30-40% because he is prompt, always happy, and is willing to explain anything. If my food is slow, drinks coming out slow, he will stop at the table and tell us why. Dude is a class act and deserves every dollar, not because of his disability but because he is fantastic at his job.

I only eat chimes once a year. I had it last time I was up in BR. And it was my second time at chimes east. First time, the service was pretty bad and the waiter wasn't enthusiastic whatsoever. I actually felt like us being there bothered him.
But anyways, the second time I went, I had this guy and it was the best service I've had at any restaurant. Including Ruth's Chris
OP. I'm just giving you a hard time. Don't take it personal. Good deeds go a very long way.

We were at Newks Sunday after church. My 6 year daughters bought a state trooper a piece of cake. She's asked him what flavor he likes and he said "which ever flavor you like, I bet I'll like."

She was Hispanic and we were barely able to talk. It was sweet, exchanging names, there wasn't verbal communication but what was relayed was amazing. I didn't do it for anything other than I saw this older woman busting arse. Just asking if people do these things too. Wasn't looking for kudos. She gave me all I needed.

Oh yeah I make it a point to try and eat on the patio now just to get him. My favorite server at any restaurant because he is always in a good mood, even if faking it. He is great at his job and even if things are slow you don't mind because he makes sure drinks are filled.
