So I was told by a long time car salesman once that these long factory warranties were indicators that the vehicles were pieces of shite. Is this true or false?

warranties are financial liabilities that have more input from accountants and marketing people than engineers. People tend to over assume the correlation between reliability and warranty length.

I don't think so, I believe it's to inspire confidence in the purchase. My 3.0 diesel came with a 100k warranty, certainly made me feel better.

So this means Dodge drivers will still be hunting every car down that isn't going 20 mph over the speed limit doesn't it

Only because you're driving 10mph below in the left lane while playing on facebook.

Not a dumbass when an electronics issue can cost 5k-10k or more. How much is an a/c compressor repair?

Yes it is. There is no way to possibly justify extended warranties in a lifetime of buying cars. The math will never add up, it is the same principles Vegas is built on. Warranties are sold to make a profit for the warranty companies, not save the consumer money. Everything about the warranty (coverage, mileage, duration) is specifically designed to provide maximum profit to the seller.

If you really want a warranty, take the cost of that warranty and invest it. Once your new car warranty is expired, that money will keep growing until you need it. In the long game you will be well ahead financially over your lifetime of auto purchases.

There are two types of people in the world - one that plans for the future and one that hope shite breaks to justify their weakness to say no to the fiance guy.

Per consumers report 95% of new engines hit 100000

95% hit it with no issues?

Yes. Engines across the various manufactures average well into 100,000+ lifespan.

Even with the GM 6.2 recall. Only 3% have required or will require an engine replacement. The Chevy small block family averages 200,000+ miles with just standard service.

100,000 is 4-5 years nowadays.

Interesting. That's a better rate than I would have guessed. I mean I would have said 99% of newer vehicles have a 100k lifespan in general, cars just run longer now. But I wouldn't have though 95% make it with no issues, that's surprising if true.

know someone who bought a dodge. He’s had it for 1 year.

The mechanic shop had it for the other 2.

This statement seems suspect, however this is why states have lemon laws.

Sometimes people just like to make stuff up.

I just hit 100,000 on my 10 year old Jeep.

I've heard the smoothest driving truck outside of a Ford raptor is the ram. Even the base models, but the limited more so.

ETA: got mine with 100k warranty for 5 dollars a month if I financed with ram. I paid it off after a year, still have the warranty.

That is a classic finance trick to sucker you into a warranty. You didn't pay $5 a month, you paid thousands of dollars. The finance guy was going to get the money marking up your loan or get it through the warranty. You got had.

This warranty would make me more confident in buying a truck with the new Hurricane engine. But it’s the electronics and other shite that has me more worried. Not so much the powertrain.

Not doubting you but can you show your work?

I’d like to understand what you said.
