Peanut gallery” stems from vaudeville days in which members of the audience would toss peanut shells at the performers and offer animated, vociferous feedback throughout the show. The cheapest seats in the house became associated with the term peanut gallery — seats which were often taken by Black people or people of color.

will say that after being here in Alaska I have realized that Eskimo is pretty heavily frowned on. It's much like the N word to many Alaska Natives.

This is NOT the sentiment where I live. The only people that get upset at this are the white apologists and/or college educated natives.

Sure in a professional setting you dont use that term (because the people previously mentioned above), but in a personal setting that word is thrown around constantly in the villages

Alaska Natives call each other Eskimos in a constant manner?

But they don’t use the hard “O”. It’s eskimuhs. And it’s off limits to the Whites

Because they were poor? Eliminating terms having to do with poverty would result in quite a hit to our lexicon - “two nickels to rub together”, “dirt poor”?

Why don’t jews object to words like “exterminate”, “concentration” or “gassed”? It’s because they shucked off a much worse prejudice, and a much worse persecution, and got to work.

Like Rush used to say: the five words that would end the relative poverty of the blacks in America are, “I’ll take the job.”

How about "YOU'RE RACIST". This certainly offends the shite out of me! Really overused in today's climate.

Doesn’t matter

It DOES matter. Most black people are embarrassed by this. And shame on you for lumping them all together like that; it’s as though you are pre-judging them all.

If there is no intent or knowledge of the person saying it about these obscure references and their meaning it ain't racist to use them...that's ridiculous. The vast majority of folks have no idea about any of this, even the folks that would allegedly be offended if they did know what they meant.

I’m going to guess you are correct, and I’m going to guess she calls him daddy when he pumps her from behind while slapping her arse.

Did I ever tell you how when I was living in DC I got called down to HR for using the phrase “off the reservation” in a meeting?

Yeah, that was a short weird discussion.

I for one won't renege, or act nigardly in my future use of these phrases. Sometimes you just have to call a spade a spade.

I heard a lady tell an old man not to "say that anymore" once in a Walmart after he referred to her as an "oriental" instead of "asian".
