R. Kelly's day goes from bad to worse--headed to jail for $161k in baby mamma payments

R. Kelly is in custody and is headed back to Cook County Jail following his child support hearing in Chicago on Wednesday (March 6). The Cook County Sheriff's Office told the Chicago Sun-Times as much this afternoon.
Kelly's imminent return to jail is linked to a court ruling handed down last month. Cook County Judge Lori Rosen ordered Kelly to pay $161,663 of the $194,000 he owes his ex-wife Andrea Kelly in back child support by March 6 at 10 a.m. Kelly, whose publicist Darryll Johnson said the singer was willing to pay up to $60,000 upfront when he arrived at the courthouse today, did not pay up the $161,663. That's why he was taken into custody.
Family attorney Alyssa Mogul, who is not involved in R. Kelly case, told the publication that the singer didn’t offer any explanation on why he couldn’t pay. “It appears he’s had his due process,” she said. “It’s time with him to comply with the order...judges don’t like it when people don’t follow their orders.”
Kelly’s criminal defense lawyer, Steve Greenberg, has told the media that the singer’s finances are “a mess” and that his income was depleted once his record label, Sony Music, parted ways with him earlier this year.
NBC News video of him being taken to jail a few minutes ago.

No slight to OP, but I guess I just don't see why people are so fascinated with the R Kelly saga and the recent TV series/coverage.
Haven't we known or suspected this shite forever? And hasn't he been irrelevant in entertainment for a decade?

It's the remix to detention
Immediate apprehension
By the way, some of the comments on the Vevo video of Remix to Ignition are fricking golden.
“It’s the freaking weekend baby, I’m about to have me some fun” - Unless it’s Sunday, in which case they have school the next day

As terrible a person as he is, I'm not really a fan of debtor's prisons.

The sheriff said he will stay in jail until he pays the $161k. He reportedly has a net worth of $100k. All sources of income have been cut off, he owes the IRS about $20 million, He owes hundreds of thousands in back rent on multiple properties. As of Jan 2019 he was living in Trump Tower-Chicago.
He would have been worth about $150 million when he started settling out of court with victims. Apparently he is not allowed to dip into the congressional slush fund for paying off rape victims.

I honestly cannot say that I am surprised that his finances are a mess. He’s been paying off people for two decades so he could bang teenagers. That has to rough on the checkbook.
