I quit cold turkey the day about a year and a half ago (New Years 2016) after dipping for 12 years. It was hell for a while, especially the first few weeks. I have buddies that still do it and every now and then I get the urge to have one when I'm around them, but for the most part, I don't even think about it anymore.
What got me through the first few weeks was sunflower seeds and gum.

thanks for all the encouragement, OT brethren. I'm reading all y'all's notes when I get a craving. Been working all day so my mind hasn't had time to play tricks on me yet.

I've been tobacco free since December 17th. I still want one every day. Good luck

I have diagnosed 4 cases of oral cancer due to dipping.
That should be all the encouragement needed

I quit cold about 3 years ago. I just kept telling myself that I did without for 10 weeks in boot camp. Physically and mentally your body will try and make you give in to nicotine. After 72 hours it is suppose to be a mental addiction so just stay strong. Plan on gaining about 10-15 pounds.

That's great, man. Thanks for the inspiration! I need it right about now.

Props to you, brother. And good luck. Make sure you find at least one person to lean on for moral support.
ETA: Never dipped or smoked myself, but i worked with tobacco cessation programs at my air force duty stations so I saw some guys struggle with quitting up close and personal. Ain't easy, but it's doable.

Good luck. I haven't had a pinch in nearly 5 years. I used the patch to help get me off. It was hard the first week but then it got better.
I still wear a patch to this day, for 5 years. I still don't dip though, so that is all that matters to me.

I dipped a can of Copenhagen daily for almost all of my 21 years in the military. One day I went to work and forgot my dip at home and I knew that I wasn't going to be able to get a can while at work.
I said frick it. If I can go through hell for 1 day and not dip, I may as well quit. That was about 5 years ago. Be stubborn about it and you can do it.

I was a long time dipper and I quit. It's not as hard as you might make it out to be. If you buy a can in a weak moment, don't just give up because a "streak" is over. Just get back on track.

I've dipped for 10+ years and enjoy it. Don't really want to quit but know I should
I'm tossing around the idea of paying my mom $20 every time I get a dip. I don't like lying to my mom and I like money so I think this might be pretty effective for me.

Take this as my encouragement and prove me wrong.
Weak Texas sucker not strong enough to quit and take care of yourself.

Good luck bud
I quit 3 years ago while I was in college after doing it for about 5. All I did was convince myself that it was nasty.
I'll still occasionally bum a pinch if I'm drunk, but I haven't bought a can for myself in ages. I don't miss it.

My dad quit earlier this year after around 35 years of dipping. So I picked up the slack for him.
Moral of the story is it can be done with a little will power.
