I was losing a pound every week I wasn't drinking

I mean for christ sakes, I was drinking margatas after work and then a 6-8 beers when I got home and then eating a full dinner.

I was probably consuming what.. 3500-4k calories?

Stopped drinking for 9-10 months and went from 245 to 207

One thing people miss is that your body is going to try and rid your body of the alcohol before it burns carbs and fat.

I used to be a big craft beer drinker. IPAs. 7 days a week, 3-4 a night. I also lifted religiously but was 181 lbs. Didn't think I was fat.

I started eating healthier and as part of that, pretty much cut out beer drinking entirely except for rare occasions and then, lighter type beers.

Still drink wine but I only drink 3 days per week.

Went from 181 to 167 in about 8 months and cannot believe the changes in my body. Highly recommend.

There was no change whatsoever when I quit drinking. Guess that means I wasn’t an alcoholic

Me and M&M's became good friends for the first year after I sobered up.

I was taking in at least 10,000 calories a week just from alcohol at my worst, which was the last year of drinking before I stopped. ClubTails was my drink of choice during that time. They were cheap with 10% alcohol and I was literally killing my self with them.

You trade in alcohol for meth? Your recent posting history seems like it.

I gave up a at least one a day cigar habit the week after the Sugar Bowl and if I ain't gaining weight I don't know how LOL. 28 days without a single Cigar and I stay hungry....mostly curb that with diet cokes and coffee but it ain't easy. I have saved at least $400 - $500 over that time frame though and that was the point. Not overly concerned with health risks associated with cigar smoking but $8-$14 a stick a couple of times a day adds up.....

I'm not sober, but I barely drink these days. I used to be a 2-3 beer a day guy, and was for a decade, if not more. I did not see much in the way of weight loss. I've actually seen the opposite as I gained muscle from being serious about exercising. I'm a naturally skinny guy. My weight has always been steady regardless of diet. I may keel over with a heart attack at 48. Who knows.

The biggest benefit for me was in the anxiety department. It didn't disappear when alcohol was taken away, but it for sure made it much easier to deal with and push aside. I look back, and it seems like I was constantly living in a state of hangxiety.

I didn't really lose weight when I quit drinking bc the sugar cravings were bad.

Weight loss came when I felt good, had all my energy and time back and started enjoying going to the gym. That also helped get the diet back in check as well as my mood.

I told someone the other day. It's amazing what happens in your body and life when you're not depressed drinking on your couch everyday.

Point made, but personally I’ve rarely ever done that. It’s nearly always feeling good, sometimes bored, often watching a good show, game or something.

Been a lot of good threads on here about people sobering up! Congrats to all. I’m always amazed at the changes I experienced as well as those of others and the various timelines around them.

For the heavy drinkers, what were your biggest changes esp weight loss and how long before seeing results? Below are mine years ago:

2-3 weeks: more energy, clearer mind, clearer skin/complexion.

Post 1month: started seeing significant weight changes (always exercised regularly). The weight changes tho were almost too good to be true. Prob dropped closer to 30lbs by the end of the second month without really heavy dieting.

Would like to see other’s stories as they could help motivate those struggling. Share your journey, OT?!

Alcohol is the worst drug, vodka is the king of these.

Stay away. This stuff isnt worth it.

I actually gained a good 50 lbs after stopping. And I’ve kept it on. I feel amazing physically. Mentally I’m still very strong even with the Mrs passing away. But I wake up feeling great every morning. And I wa read bad. I’m talking breaking out the bud heavies at like 8 in the morning bad.
