I never said that smoking isn't bad, just if affects different people in different ways.

Medicine, not just Fauci, was telling us that smokers would bite the dust in Covid. They weren't impacted any greater than non smokers.

Hell the smokers might have killed it before it got much of a grip on theml

No, I wasn't thinking that, and I'm not doubting you.

( well maybe that swimmer part )

There are aways outliers.

Plus, I'm watching Mad Men again. No wonder everyone smoked back in the day.

I buy a roll (5 cans) every Sunday. Horrible habit

I dipped from 19-35 until I started having gum issues. Its a tough habit to break, but I highly recommend doing so. Once it starts effing up your gum lines and teeth, theres no turning back.

ETA: I say this as a man who has had to get 4 non wisdom teeth pulled due to my dipping habits in my 20s and early 30s.

My 64 year old wife got diagnosed with lung cancer in Feb. she had smoked for almost 50 years. We caught it early just from a regular xray screen. Doc saw a nodule. Then she got a scan then a biopsy and they got us to June 9 She had surgery taking out the top lobe of her right lung. It was stage one so we got lucky. No chemo or radiation. I manager her process for about 5 months. And it took every ounce of energy for both of us to get thru it. But it is gone.
Doc called it smokers cancer. It is upper lobe usually and called squamish cell carcinoma. If yin are a smoker like I was for a while get X-rays every 2 years. It can save your life.

My wife (no pics) and I smoked for a long time till her mother died of lung cancer. She quit cold turkey, but it took me four days to finish a pack. This was 30 years ago. Can't believe people pay over 5 dollars for a pack now. I smoked two packs a day, she a pack a day. So that's 15 dollars a day times 365.. That's a car note a month up in smoke.

A cigarette to me today would be nasty, I can’t stand the smell. I don’t really miss it that much because it’s been 15 years but this thread made me think of it. Occasionally I’ll think about it over coffee but not often

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Best decision you’ll ever make. I’ve been almost two years without one. You won’t believe how bad you smelled and how bad feeling “normal” is when smoking.

Every soldier was issued cartons of cigarettes through the Korean War at a minimum. Non filters so they could field strip the butts and stash the remaining paper. Pre WWII it was cans of tobacco and roll your own.

The link between lung cancer and cigarettes was found via statistics. Homes with only one smoker, only the smokers were getting lung cancer.

I hope I didn't wait too long myself. I've been quit for a little over 6 years now after right at 40 years of smoking. I guess time will tell.

Sorry about your brother, lung cancer is what took my mom

I was a weekend smoker for years, basically only smoked when I drank. I quit cold turkey over 6 years ago and haven’t touched one since. I tell anyone who wants to quit, you can never touch one again. That’s the only way. One drag leads to one cigarette, which leads to starting all over again

It is amazing how few people actively smoke now compared to 50 years ago. Banning smoking in public places seemed to have had the most impact in this trend.

Prayers! I lost my younger brother in 2011 at the age of 47. I would add to watch your diet as well as my brother was somewhat overweight.
