Will we have to here this whining from the millennials forever? Man up. Work for it.

Don't think I would have gone with "smarter" in a sentence before using "here" in that context.

Gen X here, I hate Boomers as much as the next guy but many that should be retiring would be stupid to retire in this economy.

The vast majority of boomers can't retire in any economy. It's a fact that most boomers must either work until they die or live off of the government. They don't have a choice.

ETA: I mean damn the boomer in spirit Sawtooth is bragging in here about retiring in 5 years and he doesn't even have 2 years' salary in savings. These people are lost.

Millennials are checking out because boomers like you completely fricked up everything.

Not once ever in the history of humanity has a generation pilfered away everything for their immediate enjoyment at the cost of future investment for their children.

“You’d own a house by now if you only stopped drinking Starbucks every morning.”

Please.

Back in your day a brand new car and college tuition could all be paid for working a summer job.

Please see yourself out.

Lol. I'm not a boomer, dummy. I've worked with plenty of the two groups in question, I stand by the assessment that they're lazy, entitled shitheads. Just like them, to blame other people for their own frick-ups.

Imagine being angry at someone for maximizing their earning potential. Imagine needing someone to retire just so you can succeed.

Thats why this shite is funny. In this thread you have zoomers and millennials griping because people are working too long and drawing too much social security.

They're working too long because they're house and commodities poor. Younger people want them to retire because Boomers build an encomomy based on people 30-50 carrying the spending. It has nothing to do with me or anyone else giving a shite if they work or not and everything to do with the economic realities of the country.

drawing too much social security

Well yeah, most people are receiving more than they paid. It's unsustainable and an economic drain. The entire thing is a ponzy scheme. Half of people died before the ever recieved a benefit when it was started.

Very Lib of you to support SS

This is why we are outsourcing our engineers right now to Asia. Congrats.

He's 100% right. If you properly plan your time and have a decent work ethic, you should NOT need to put in more than 40-45 hours a week. If your company is outsourcing engineers because no one wants to work themselves into burnout, that's a very bad mentality of your company.

I’ll say it again. I never met a poor plumber or A/C guy.

And in all the years I've been asking, I've never met that welder making 70K. Not. Once.

I don't doubt they make more than the cashier at the grocery store, but those jobs don't pay what folks say they do, either, meaning the people working for other people.

You may be right, and SS may in fact be gone by the time most of us reach the age to collect it.. after all, certain politicians have been trying to “privatize” SS for decades now.. but my question is this: For those of us like myself, im mid-40s and have been paying into SS since i had my first job at 14 yrs old- what will happen to all the money ive been paying into for the last 30 plus years ? I realize the easy , cynical answer would be ‘Well baw, youre just s*** out of luck’ but im looking for a serious answer.. Will that money that’s been taken out of my paycheck for the three decades just disappear, or do you think there will be some effort to grandfather us in ?

Well, if we would go back to the tax rates we used to have, before republicans fricked all of us, we would be able to fund SS and Medicare and Medicaid.

But some folks don't like that idea.

Probably because at the current tax rates they could be funded if politicians wouldn't raid it for other unrelated projects

They treat social security like a piggy bank

Do you know what the historical tax rates for SS were?

Because of your statement, I am assuming you have no idea and you believe it has been decreasing.

quote:

The original Social Security contribution rate was 1% of pay, which was matched by employers. The tax rate grew to 1.5% in 1950 and gradually increased to top 5% by 1978. The current tax rate of 6.2% has been in effect since 1990. However, higher earners don't pay Social Security taxes on all of their income. The Social Security tax applied only to earnings of $3,000 or less in 1950 and earlier. The tax cap has increased over time to $51,300 in 1990 and $147,000 in 2022. Earnings above this amount are not subject to the Social Security payroll tax or factored into benefit payouts.
We pay more now and the cap has been increasing steadily.

The only period where the rate was higher (7.25% or something) was from 1981 to 1990 and it was on a lower cap.

Google is an easy thing to use. You should look into topics before you comment.
