Quiet Quitting? Well that a new term.

Oh my how the American workforce is faltering. Everyone is entitled. Everyone is getting treated unfairly. If we had to endure the working conditions of our forefathers we would realize how good we have it.
We are falling behind on so many levels. Soon all we will have left is agriculture (thank you Mexicans) and tourism.
I’m just thankful that I only have a few more years of this crap.

Across generations, U.S. employee engagement is falling, according to survey data from Gallup, but Gen Z and younger millennials, born in 1989 and after, reported the lowest engagement of all during the first quarter at 31%. Jim Harter, chief scientist for Gallup’s workplace and well-being research, said workers’ descriptions of “quiet quitting” align with a large group of survey respondents that he classifies as “not engaged”—those who will show up to work and do the minimum required but not much else. More than half of workers surveyed by Gallup who were born after 1989—54%—fall into this category.

i'm not usually in the "ok boomer" camp, but uh...
A decent share of this falls on the failure of management. Managers can feel entitled to their staff just as much as someone can feel entitled to a check.

Im an older millennial, and i get it. Work/life balance. Makes no sense to go above and beyond and put in more hours than is needed.

But they’re the smartest, most well informed people ever!! They know everything cause they have phones and computers and Wiki.
It’s a shame wiki can’t teach them a work ethic.

I notice this with younger employees, in both low level service jobs and in the entry level roles at the company I'm in.
People used to actually halfway care about the service you got even if you were serving them fast food. The entry level sales reps used to try their hardest to get promoted faster. Now it seems like neither group gives a shite. They do the absolute minimum.

This is why we are outsourcing our engineers right now to Asia. Congrats.

This right here.
How many people are told "you are very valuable to this company" but are denied promotions.
Plus you hear the advice all the time about how your company is not your friend and cannot be trusted.
Employers want it both ways to treat their workforce like mindless workers but not act like it.

Well yeah. They know they're entering a workforce that the boomers have skewed by a half generation or so by remaining working for too long. Their prospects of high advancement are almost 0 because of this. Why put forth the effort?

No it’s not. “We” are doing that because those Asians are cheaper. Hence another reason why many workers don’t want to go above and beyond for companies.

I work in agriculture so that sounds good to me.

We're passed the days where boomers think it's ok to work 80 hours and miss important life/family shite.

Asians also don’t complain about have to go to an office to work.
It’s time to be an adult. I’ve worked 7 months/84 hours a week once. I also made a shite pile of money.

I hate millenials and zoomers as much as the next old guy but if a company gives zero fricks about its employees there's no reason the employees should give any fricks about the company.

How do you know? And why do you have to be in an office to work?

Depends on your mindset, I guess. I'm competitive and do everything balls-to-the-wall and if I don't like a job I find another one, but I give max effort while I'm there. I expected to be compensated accordingly. I learned that this mindset would never be fully rewarded when working for someone else, so I have been self-employed for a while and doing well.
Most people, especially younger people, try to avoid hard work, I have found that it's better to lean into it. It makes the day go faster and is more fulfilling that dicking off. It also opens up a lot of opportunities. You never know who's watching.
