One of the first things my parents taught me when learning to drive was ALWAYS park by the shopping cart return, not the front door. Holy shite its just great advice.

Sorry but if my kids are with me, I'm not leaving them in the car just to put a buggy away halfway across the parking lot. 1 or 2 spots over, sure I'll do it. But in this day and age there's no chance I'm leaving my kids unattended in a car, whether it's locked, unlocked, off, or on. Too much to go wrong.
If I am by myself, I will gladly take the extra walk to put it away, often times all the way back to the store if I am in the first couple of spots.

How old are kids? Can you get a kid to do it?

The shopping cart corral was created, much like the self check out line, to remove employees.
Much like both, some people use it, and some people do not.
There once was a time that these things did not exist called the 1990s. During those times, teenager's were paid minimum wage to retrieve carts (and run the cash register and bag groceries).
Both were bad ideas as you can see as many places have returned to people retrieving carts and few people use the self check out.
Do you also get mad at the mfers who sit in a long line with a few items that do not use the self checkout?
You might want to re-evaluate your life, you clearly do not have enough to worry about.

Those same people probably just bought family packs of Doritos and Lays, halloween size candy packages, oven pizzas, 3 12-packs of soda, no veggies, and complain about how expensive it is to eat healthy.

This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Everywhere I have ever been has more people at self check out than the regular lines. People aren't paid to go retrieve your cart from the middle of a parking spot because you don't have decency to put the cart up. They are paid to get the out of the corrals and bring them to the front of the store. Lots of lazy assholes making excuses as to why they are lazy assholes in this thread.

Getting and buying groceries is a necessity. So dealing with other people doing the same is also a necessity. Failing to put up your grocery cart inconveniences others for no other reason than laziness.

I’ve always found whether or not a person puts their cart up provides a pretty good overview of their character in general.
I think it also says a lot about someone that obsesses over whether a person does or doesn't.

No, the corral was created to keep hundreds of shopping carts littering the parking lot, taking up parking spaces, and rolling downhill into other people's cars.
Idiot.

Why would someone waste their weed or meth by putting it in a strangers car that would EASILY be traced back to them? That's stupid as hell.
Well if I have to explain it to you...

It's also bad because there's no telling what they will put in your car (meth, weed, etc).
Is this meant to be a deterrent?

I don't know how to put this the right way, but, several of our grocery stores have "special" employees and this is one of their main tasks. So, think of it as keeping them busy and employable. In fact, they do such a great job rounding up carts that sometimes you don't have any when you need one to load up your deposit returns.

Yeah, I can't tell you how many times I've had Kroger clicklist employees leave me an ounce of weed in my groceries

the fact that you think this is a gotcha tells me you are indeed a lazy POS

Well, most of these folks are either obese or morbidly obese, hence the reason why they don't go the extra 30-40 feet to the cart return section at Wal-Mart.

A more apt analogy here would probably be: do you leave toilet paper or paper towels on the floor instead of throwing them away?
No, I'm not a lazy a-hole

What is your need to have me put my cart in a stall?
You really can't see any issue with carts being left all over the lot? Really?

More than capable of walking the extra 100 feet...but doesn't mean you still aren't an a-hole
