Question for those of you who live in the Northern states. Do you guys dread winter like we dread summer in Louisiana? Does the cold bother you more than the humid sticky heat bothers us?

Me personally, I would take freezing cold over Satan’s armpit any day, but that’s because I grew up in Louisiana and am still here today (blah). Do you Northerners feel the opposite? Do you embrace the heat?

Heat doesn’t shut down infrastructure.

I have a fraternity brother from Iceland who vowed to never live outside of the South here in the US, or similar climates in Europe.

I was born and raised in Alabama, and I'm moving to Idaho because frick this heat and humidity bullshite.

I've spent winters in northern climates. I hate the heat worse as long as we aren't talking Northern Minnesota.

I've lived in both, and I much prefer the cool.

The snow can be annoying if you need to get anywhere.

The NE doesn’t bother me. I’ve been to Minnesota several times. That bothered me

I lived in Ohio for awhile. For the most part, the winters there weren't as bad as summers in the South. The Midwest in the fall is awesome.

I actually hated spring more than winter there.

Well, brownouts and blackouts happen frequently

Nope.

It gets hot and humid in the summer in WI pretty frequently and I absolutely hate it. (I'm talking 80's with high humidity)

Winter is no big deal. Can always throw more clothes on. It's only bad if it's like -20 or colder but that isn't all that common. Maybe a few nights per year.

No I don’t dread it as much as I dreaded summers in Louisiana.

The first snow of the year is the best, and being able to ski or rent a cabin in the woods with the snow is great.

It’s not my favorite season, but I definitely prefer it to Louisiana in July.

ETA: this is New England winters, not the frozen hellscape that is Minnesota.

Snow isn't the problem, it's the dumb people of this world that don't know how to slow down their vehicles for the conditions that cause the problems.

Generally one has to make more accommodations for cold.

I lived in Minnesota for 16 long, brutal winters. Believe me, it's no picnic. The cold is bad enough. The last year I was there, it got down to -25 with a -45 wind chill.

That's not the worst part, though. You take your life in your hands driving during winter. Hit some black ice and your life will flash in front of your eyes. If you survive, you're scarred for life.

No thanks.

People ask me "what do you know about cold?" when I say I was born and raised in Alabama.

I tell them I spent four months on a mountain top in turkey where we never saw temps above freezing, and it got down to -56 a couple nights. Not "wind chill of -56", actual temp of -56.

They shut up reaaaaaal quick.

I’d rather get buttfricked by an army of silverback gorillas than deal with snow for any extended amount of time.

I think my ideal climate would be something like the PNW. Seasons without too much of either extreme. Maybe somewhere like Eugene, OR or something. Average high is 83 in August and 43 in December.
