The people who complain about this really grind my gears. I travel 45 minutes to the clinic I work in 5 days a week. Am I supposed to change in the bathroom at the office if I am going to the store on the way home? What if I am going to lunch, do I need to change to go grab a bite to eat? If I work out at lunchtime, can I wear my scrubs to the gym and change in the locker room(WHERE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO CHANGE) or is that douchey as well? If we are having a rep sponsored dinner, right after clinic, do I need to pack a freaking bag of clothes to go and listen to a program? Obviously if I am going out on a weekend or have actually been HOME I will change. I won't throw on my scrubs at random times and leave the house just because. But you obviously don't know everybody's situation and why they are wearing them. And for you public health dummies, ask the workout baws how many of them change clothes every time before leaving the gym. There is more MRSA on gym equipment than in any clinic, hospital, or leper colony. When we do procedures in an office setting, we wear gowns, and other PPE to protect ourselves(and clothing). Would I need to change my shoes after leaving the clinic as well, or how about having to take a full on shower at work(there isn't one BTW) before my 45 minute drive home to appease the people who are bothered by this. Seriously, don't worry about what other people are wearing. Worry about getting a real job and moving out of your mommy's house. /rant

I wore scrubs to class every day my third year of law school.
We are doctors, too.

Agree. I do home health and drive from 8-9 different patients house per day so I am running around all day. I'll start changing in between each one then changing back in the patients' homes now that I know a bunch of college kids decided I am a health risk to the public for wearing scrubs.

My point is that I am not close to home to always change clothes. Typical of a millennial to start name calling without bringing any substance to the topic.

I usually wear regular clothes (jeans and button-up) to work and then change into scrubs for the day. Docs that that wear scrubs outside of the hospital after an OR day are gross.

Being in an OR setting and working in an outpatient clinic are two different things.

Im no doctor
But this is a stupid topic. You aren't taking everyone's situation in context.
I had a gross anatomy class last summer plus other classes throughout the day. All of us wore scrubs and didn't change clothes until we got home. We may have smelled like formaldehyde due to dissecting these men and women that gave their bodies to school to perform that.
So yeah screw you

No prob with reps or others wearing scrubs in an outpatient setting. But wearing scrubs in surgery all day then wearing those same scrubs to the gym later is beyond the pale.

Ah man, you will never forget that smell. Such an important part of training though. Try to soak it all in, no pun intended

Totally agree with this.

Pssst, those aren't Docs, they're salesmen.
And I love when they loudly say "I have surgery in the morning"...

I can still wear scrubs in my new nursing office job. So I do. When given the option of wearing basically pajamas to work everyday...you take it.
I get off of work at 4:30 and many times meet up friends for happy hour around 5. So I will go in my scrubs and don't give one frick of what others think of me. Why change to just sit and have a few drinks? Just did this last night and will do it tonight. I always take my id badge off as soon as I leave work though.

You would too if you had to deal with blood and pus on your clothes. I never wear them out though.
That's a shame, blood and pus make for one hell of an ice breaker.

At my hospital they are not allowed to do this. Those working in the OR get hospital issued scrubs that are not to leave the hospital. It is expected that staff change out of them before they go home for infection control reasons.
My new boss will rat out any surgeons she sees leaving the hospital in OR scrubs to their attendings

This is how it was at every hospital I rotated in. Of course the people complaining aren't privy to this information.

The most comical thing is seeing people that aren't doctors (medical equipment salesmen) who wear scrubs around town.

Most are not even that, they are CNAs or dental assistants.
