No.

This response is one of many reasons that the legal advice you get here is worth what you pay for it.

If he is a lawyer then he should know very well he could get fired and not have a case….

I think we can see why he might have got fired.

What do you think the company owed your friend?

Unless there’s a contract, they only owe him for work completed. They don’t owe him anything for tomorrow, including a job.

Also, doesn’t sound like he was fired, just let go. That’s a difference worth noting when your friend goes out to find another job.

In an at-will state, a business can fire anyone for any reason (including no reason) any time they like.

Many businesses (especially larger ones) have a probationary period (whether stated or not) where they judge the employees behavior and work product to determine if they want to keep them around longer (generally 6-12 months, but can be shorter).

Either your friend wasn't a good fit or the person doing the hiring decided they wanted to help out a friend or hire a potential office-poke.

He should offer to suck the boss’ dick then say they fired him for being a fig.

Agreed…very important distinction between being fired and beating laid off.

That cant be legal correct?? There has to be some warning or something right??

No attorney necessary. It is perfectly legal for him to quit at any time just as it is legal for his employer to terminate him at any time. No reason necessary in either scenario.

I usually put it like this: If you wanted to quit a job for no reason, you can. It works both ways, like it or not. /thread

There’s more to this than what you posted. Your friend probably has a pretty good idea why he was fired, he just hasn’t told you.

This happened to my brother. They paid for his move to Kentucky, he bought a new house, and he was let go a few weeks later.
He is discussing it with an attorney, but I don't know if there is much they can do. It's shitty.

Not only can they just up and fire you for no reason, even if there is a reason they have most likely been advised by the legal team to not give a reason unless they want to attempt to keep the now former employee from being paid unemployment income. And even then, the reason will be a vague as possible

Some companies have employees sign an acknowledgement of his or her understanding that his or her employment is "at-will" in accordance with the employment laws of the relevant state.

In some cases, companies may require employees to sign an arbitration agreement to avoid any potential civil litigation stemming from their termination of an employee.

In the absence of a contract, or an entitlement to the job for a period of time, the company does not need a reason for letting someone go as long as the reason is not improper such as discrimination.

Ask yourself what business owner in this environment of sloths fires an employee who is an asset. Most business owners won't fire anyone if they just show up to work with a pulse, much less have an ounce of work ethic. If you demonstrate any amount of work ethic you can generally demand a raise in a month and get it. Heck, we've go brand new doctors dragging down 500k per year and they don't want to work. Never seen anything like it.

Texas,,,,,weird case.

Texas = at will

You can be fired at any time for any reason or NO reason at all. The caveat being it can be for an illegal reason such as religion, age, race or retaliation. There are some other potential reasons they couldn't fire someone but all are rare.
