That would be a no...
Dude it's not the PGA tour. If he wants to use on the green while putting he should.
Don't be that guy on the course. Its for fun not for money.

I'm tired of buying and losing pricey golf balls
Find a course with a long par 3 over water, stake it out.
Come back at night with a pillow case and go into said water feeling along the bottom, fill pillow case.
We did this once a yr growing up and would score 200 + good balls, then sale them back to the driving range while keeping 40-50 selects

just buy a solid well priced ball like TopFlite Gamer. Good feel, spin and price. You can usually find a dozen for $15 if you look around. I think they usually retail for $25/dozen.

Callaway SuperSoft $20 really great golf ball

I'm a 6 handicap and I mostly play the super soft because it's a good ball for my game
I don't need the maximum check of a tour ball because my short game isn't built around it. I hit my irons high enough to stop any ball on the green.
The super soft is a good ball all around. My only negative is it is a little hot off the putter face.

a cheaper ball would probably benefit the OP by reducing spin (ie slice) on his shots. bridgestone e6 is a great ball, consistently one of the highest rated cheap balls. usually $20-25/dozen.
i frequently buy mojos or something similar for $10/18 balls. they suck, but so do i. i don't feel bad about losing a $0.50 cent ball. i play e6's when playing more seriousy

Look up Snell. Same tech in the proV but half the price.

Maybe switch to a decent ball when putting.
Bad advice, teaching a beginner to cheat.

Ridiculous.
It's like saying you need to spend a lot of money on clubs. Until you can legitimately break 95 on a set of $150 Rams you are wasting money. Same with the balls.
Lol no. Nice try though.
Whether you play with brand new clubs, or clubs that are 15 years old, the condition of the club I'd negligible in terms of performance. The condition of the golf ball (not just the surface, but its core as well) is everything. Your comparison doesn't work here.
A sleeve of $20-$25 golf balls will outperform (read "be more consistant") than a sleeve of refurbished ProVs.
The common theme among amateurs that hurts their game is consistency. Why would you take the chance of there being an inconsistency with one of the most important aspects of the game?

This. Lots of shady stuff going on in the past with "refurbished" golf balls. Wouldn't trust them at all.

Went back to these and not sure why I left.
Love everything about them.
OP, hit these when you get in the 80's.

I love the feel of these balls.#nohomo

Just go out and play on a slow Monday after a busy weekend. Stomp through the brush a few times and you will have dozens of decent golf balls.

Stuff a few range balls in your bag and you'll be set

I buy ziplock bags of used balls from Pawn shops or thrift stores.
I recently started playing and I've told myself I'm not allowed to spend genuine money until I have the basics down.
Clubs all came from pawn/thrift shops, too. I even got my bag second-hand.
