NXT's are in the $30-35 range. The 2016 version is a damn good ball for the above-average amateur. I prefer them over ProV1x's

Probably obvious, but make sure your clubs aren't wrong for your swing level. I did the same at first, buying some old cobra irons on CL when I started. They were very unforgiving, and made golf kind of miserable. Hard to hit. I picked up some cheap game improvement clubs, and I'm so much happier. I got these (clones of Taylormade Rocketballz):

Keep a ball retriever in your bag. If you see a ball in the water, nab it. Just don't hold up your group hunting golf balls.

OP, some really good affordable balls for cheap. See wilson Duo and and precept makes one too i believe. Duo is one of the better balls I've played for my game.

I would suggest srixon soft feel, good ball and very durable around $19 a dz. If you like the titleists you can get x-outs for $9 a dz for dt-solo or nxt. Or pro-v for $30 a dz

It's been a while since I bought any of these... You are correct... They've gone up some.

I like the ball but I think there are some cheaper options that are just as good for an above average amateur.

To the OP... another option is to go play with some really shitty golfers... Bomb one down the middle and as they are hacking away in the woods you can look for lost balls.

I play Pro-V1x’s and love them, but they are just so expensive. I can’t do the MG I don’t think if its comparable to the Pro-V1 regular. I just put too much spin on the ball with every club. I have a really high swing speed.

I think I’m going to try LostGolfBalls.com. 96 Pro-V1x’s for $165 is damn fine deal. And those are the 5* rated ones.

Get the 2014 model, they are only 139. They're perfect and you get some cool logos. Played with one last night

Is there a substantial difference between 2018, 2016, 2014, and 2010?

Should I just go with the cheapest 5A option?

Go buy Costco balls, they are the same as like the Nike expensive balls bit 1/5 the price.

Probably. There hasn't been any changes that you'll notice.

My philosophy on golf balls is this - I've got to get much, much better before I can blame even the cheapest golf balls for my scoring.

Buy precept laddies until you want to step up the ball (you get better).

They are the best value ball on the market, usually $20 for a double dozen. I play them when I got the shanks and don’t want to lose more balls or when it is wet and I don’t want to sweat losing them if they get buried and I can’t drive around looking

Find a course with a long par 3 over water, stake it out. Come back at night with a pillow case and go into said water feeling along the bottom, fill pillow case. We did this once a yr growing up and would score 200 + good balls, then sale them back to the driving range while keeping 40-50 selects

There is no way that the return on getting into a golf course pond at night for 200 balls is worth it for an adult

ETA: just realized I was replying to a 2 y/o thread

Go to academy and get a bucket of 75 used balls for around $15. If you are good enough to not hit your golf balls in the water then you will play a handful of rounds without having to purchase golf balls.
