I honestly was just curious to know how much bias played a role in employment.
It's simple... if they think you can make them money without making them look stupid for hiring you, you're in... that's it and that's all... it's about $$ and image... they don't give a damn if your black white or purple as long as they feel you can produce without embarrassing them
Get over the discrimination bullshite and get real

Hiring discrimination is difficult for an individual to prove.
If you are hired, you were the preferred candidate, and the hiring manager has full faith in you to be able to be productive and succeed. Racial discrimination is something that you may someday face, but worrying about it now is setting yourself up for failure.
Go, contribute, be productive, and honestly work to be better at your job than others in your position. Chances are, you will be rewarded for your efforts. Worry about succeeding before you give yourself an excuse for failing.

I do not act that way in real life. As a rule, I try to be modest when meeting new people. I always show respect to those in authority.
As for people skills, I know how to chat with people of different backgrounds from my own. Granted, I have always been an introverted person.

Honest question and I'm not trying to troll... Is English your first language?

Thanks. As LucasP stated, sometimes it just becomes so discouraging. However, I know that in order to succeed sometimes you have a crack a few eggs before you get that opportunity you want.

Yes. I am a native English speaker. The reason why I make posts which have grammatical errors is because of the Auto-Correct Feature on my phone. I primarily use my phone for this forum.

Do you have asperger's/autism?
Do you have a black sounding name?

Troll question. And No.

It is a Norman surname based on French influence.

In my industry, we trip all over ourselves to hire qualified black candidates.

Try not to get discouraged. Is it possible that you don't interview well? Some people don't.
I can't offer very specific tips because I don't know your field, but in general, you want to be polished, confident and eager (without being over-eager, if that makes sense). I get from Lucas' post that you are a recent grad, so you're going to lack a lot of working knowledge of the field you're entering, but you should be able to project to them that you are competent, skilled, and able to learn the profession.
In complete seriousness, if you feel that you are lacking in the interview department, find someone who teaches interview skills.
Definitely don't get discouraged. It's not a great hiring market in some fields anyway. Work on positioning yourself to take full advantage when you finally get your opportunity.
ETA - A great interview can sometimes land you a job beyond what your skills and education qualify you for. Not always, but it happens.

On what grounds is an employer allowed to discriminate during the hiring and (more directly) assessing work productivity of an individual.
So now the reason you are not being hired is the racist system and not you.
Got it.
You are the problem, not the system. The system now is turned to give you more advantage than white males (the historical boogiemen).

Are you applying for jobs that your degrees, and the order in which you earned them, makes you qualified to get?
Are you going to your interviews in a business suit? Not the double breasted, shiny, for the club thing with the paisley tie in Jaguar colors.
Have you hit up any contacts that may be helpful? Professors, friends from school that landed a job, etc.?
Handshakes and eye contact? Posture?
How are you finding places to apply?

Black? Southern Grad? Under 1000 TD posts? You have no shot
Posted on 8/8/16 at 8:42 pm to volod
Well, you said you were an introvert. That's a prime indication for Asbergers. Sometime, if not all the time, an HR person that does the phone screening will dump your resume if you have a last name like Jackon.

While it's true that there are a lot of protected classes, it doesn't mean that discrimination doesn't happen. He may be legitimately at a disadvantage in the hiring process.
I gather that Volod is the guy who has posted stuff before about being a Southern grad, correct? I think I remember that, but don't really remember what the posts were. Regardless, Southern doesn't carry a reputation for being academically rigorous, and if he went to SUNO, it's got a truly bad reputation.
He may be competing with people who went to schools that are more highly regarded, and he might also encounter managers who don't think highly of any HBCU. It's possible he might even be passed over for some interviews. It does happen.
Posted on 8/8/16 at 9:03 pm to Evolved Simian
Volod, if you happen to read my post above, don't let it discourage you.
I've had very some good employees come from HBCU's, including one from Southern. I've also struck out. The same holds true for other schools.
Your opportunity will come. Make the most of it when it does.
