One of my frat bros was an EBR deputy that seemed to work every concert at the Assembly Center. He would always tell us to go to a certain door and he’d let us in for the shows.

My roommate was a stagehand. He had a photo album of all the big acts. The best was one of Stevie Nicks coked out of her mind.

Attended that one, but it wasn't nearly as good as the one Halloween 1978 in NOLA, Municipal Auditorium.

If that was the show from the “Rumors “ tour, I was there. That’s a very cool gig your buddy had, we used to get some incredible acts there.

Why didn’t you just wait another year and round off the number to 40?

He went to a concert 40 years ago. He might be dead by then.

never was much of a Queen fan, but there's no doubt that Freddie Mercury could work the room, he was a showman

bonus trivia question: what's pink, furry and hasn't moved since 1991?

Freddie Mercury's slippers

I had a job as an usher at the Superdome for concerts and Saints games in the early 90s.. would drive in from LSU whenever there was an event.. the work was sporadic, but the pay was pretty good for a broke college student.. Never forget working the Monday Night Footnall Saints game vs Raiders when ‘Cha-Ching’ was a big thing; i was working one of the elevators and a then-unknown Seth Green (who starred in the commercial) got in and struck up a conversation.. he was about 5 ft tall, if that.

Also concert wise, saw the most eclectic acts you could ever imagine.. once got to work a rap concert, ont he bill were DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince, Public Enemy, Kid n Play, and MC Lyte.. Couple weeks later i worked right next to the stage for a Frank Sinatra concert, when he was already in his death rattle... Good times.

More due to how artists tour now because of local travel habits than BR itself.

maybe on the arena level .... but mid size venues 200-1200 are fairly depressing in BR. Name one other major college town in the US that does not have a good small venue (and i'm not talking about listening rooms) ... hard to do.

there used to be a good one in the Union. saw Billy Joel when he was still hungry there from about 5 rows back, awesome show

You must not have been around in the 80's when Ossie Brown shut down the rock concerts at the Centroplex and put B.R. on the map of places for music acts to avoid.

Were you at the J. Geils concert in the early 1980's? My friend and I were on the floor a few rows in front of the stage. Every time people got out of their chairs to dance, arena security made them sit back down in their seats. Things got so bad Peter Wolf stopped the show to complain of these strong-arm tactics.

Baton Rouge used to be a Mecca for awesome live entertainment, but they've been blacklisted since the 1980's. Beaver Productions said they would never send another act to BR, and it seems they've pretty much kept their promise.

sad thing is there is a legacy of good music venues in BR.

Varsity (when the booking was balanced and interesting)
Spanish Moon / The Art Bar
Chelsea's
The Bayou
Thirsty Tiger
M+W
Tabby's
arena shows at various venues in 70's/80's
and whatever old school hole in the wall spots i'm not aware of or thinking of

BR has The Varsity which brings in a decent lineup of acts

You also have L'Auberge if they ever get their shite straight

PMAC will eventually open back up for concerts when BB is done. The venue is very difficult to reset from event to event thus killing any chances of holding a lot of concerts during the BB/Gymnastics seasons. A new PMAC would be designed to accomodate diverse events

I saw Weezer there in 2014. I don't quite know how anything could ever top that.

I was at that Weezer show too. Absolutely amazing, but come on man... Do you really not know how a Queen show could top that?

The Chimes
Mother's Mantle
The Kingfish and subsequent establishments at that location
Southdown's Lounge's parking lot parties (The Charlie Pappy Band and Potliquor were regular performers)
Papa Joe's
The Sports Page
Secrets Lounge
Chief's on Highland Road...

The Kingfish was in Southdowns Shopping Center across the parking lot from Southdowns Lounge. There's a Pilates Plus where the KF used to be.
