Read the other Emirates might also be wanting to swap their order of A380s out with a different plan. This would be the end of that plane.

4 engine market is mostly dead. A twin engine can do everything you need. The 777X is Boeing’s response to the death of the 747. They can pack 400 in a 777-9x.

Qatar Airways is replacing their 380s with the 777X in the next few years.

So what's their competitor for the 777/787?

they don't have anything, they got their market share by giving away airplanes

Doubts about the future of the Airbus A380 have grown after yet another airline canceled an order for the superjumbo jet. Australia's Qantas (QABSY) said Thursday that it had scrapped longstanding plans to buy eight more of the double-decker planes. The A380 has been a major disappointment for Airbus (EADSF), racking up less than a quarter of the sales the European company forecast when it first introduced the giant jetliner more than a decade ago. The underwhelming demand has fueled questions about how long the manufacturer can justify continuing production of the iconic aircraft. Airlines like Qantas have shifted their interest to lighter, more fuel efficient passenger jets.
#Boeing #Merica #Dreamliner etc, etc.
I remember at the time people were questioning Boeing's strategy. Well played execs, well played

could get more than that but long haul flights not typically configured for high density seating

They don't have a skunkworks dept or anything?

it's a consortium of UK, Germany, and France, or at least that's the way they began, their product is vastly inferior to Boeing

Saw a show on their final assembly facility in Toulouse. They haul huge chunks of the plane by truck through a narrow corridor in the middle of town to get to the plant. It's the most inefficient thing I've ever seen. It almost looks like something that would happen in LA

they also ship large fuselage parts in canals by barge to assembly plants

So what makes it so inferior to Boeing?

inefficient wing, poor power to weight, flight management system is like a Tandy 1000 compared to the Honeywell used on Boeing, it's really dumbed down and that it was designed for "certain" markets really reflects that, was designed more or less to "protect" itself from (inexperienced, poorly trained,)pilots

By using independently operated joysticks?

no, it's fly by wire, everything in the cockpit is basically a computer mouse, and each stick has a take over push button to take control from the other pilot

I thought one of the issues with the AirFrance crash was the two joysticks were cancelling each other out

that was only part of the problem, the stick inputs add each other algebraically to an extent, which means that if they are moved in opposite directions simultaneously they will null each other out

So are Boeing and Airbus the only real players in the game these days?
