Qantas cancels orders for Airbus A380

Doubts about the future of the Airbus A380 have grown after yet another airline canceled an order for the superjumbo jet. Australia's Qantas (QABSY) said Thursday that it had scrapped longstanding plans to buy eight more of the double-decker planes. The A380 has been a major disappointment for Airbus (EADSF), racking up less than a quarter of the sales the European company forecast when it first introduced the giant jetliner more than a decade ago. The underwhelming demand has fueled questions about how long the manufacturer can justify continuing production of the iconic aircraft. Airlines like Qantas have shifted their interest to lighter, more fuel efficient passenger jets.
#Boeing #Merica #Dreamliner etc, etc.

Could be close to the end for the A380. Can't take many more hits.

Charleston, SC is happy to hear this news.

Smaller planes with longer range is the future. More fuel efficient and long-range 737/787/A320 will be the only orders in the future (other than regional planes)

They should have focused on a cargo version of the A380.

Smaller planes, longer flight, crammed in like sardines. What can go wrong?

A380 is done. The A350 and 787/777X have killed it. 4 enginer can’t compete economically with 2 engines.

A320 3x3 config already sucks. It's either I pay extra for 1st class and get a big seat, or have a small space for flight. If the flight is 2 hours no problem, however when you start moving toward 3,4,5 hours. That kinda fricking sucks.

Thanks, I knew it was going to be a battle but I never lost confidence.

777 has crushed the A380
I think the 777 started the demise then the 787 put the final nail in.

Quanta had 12, that leaves 85 orders on the books, the majority belonging to Emerites (53) There was some chatter that Lufthansa was going to throw a 15 order lifeline, but that fell through. They need 6/year to keep the line open and profitable. Willing to bet there will be more cancellations.

Flown on the Qantas A380 twice and the United Dreamliner 4 times. I will never take the A380 when the 787 is the alternative option.

I’m happy as an American to read this thread but as a traveler I must admit the Singapore Airlines A388 “experience” on their JFK-FRA route is not bad.
Who knew you could get yellow fever at 35 angels?
