15 year old dog. Not wife.

No pics. She's gonna be a crying mess for the next few days.

Its actually easy... pour out a little food, and while they are eating, BOOM. Quick and painless. (and cheap).

Some people might feel like a spending a few bucks to not have to see their pet's brains sprayed on the ground might be worth it.

Maybe people realize there is a chance that the shot doesn't kill the dog instantly or painlessly (happens too often actually).

I don't think either way is right or wrong - different people just handle these types of things differently.

The dog was your faithful companion for 15 years giving you unconditional love and you are bitching about $160? Suck it up and pay it.

Sorry for your loss btw

Im just joking.

I try and make humor in hard situations. Losing a dog is one of the hardest things you can do.

Best wishes

We had to put our lab down about a month ago (blind and diabetes was getting worse). A friend who's a vet came over and put her down at our home. Cost came to around $200 in total after cremation. Look at it this way, it's cheaper to pay the $160 to put your dog down instead of having to pay higher vet bill to keep it alive. You should be grateful you got 15 years, we only got 9.

It does suck.

But we do it to ourselves. You know you're going to be destroyed every 10-12 years.

We got 15. So we are lucky.

The $200 went towards the cremation and ornamental urn. My mom wanted it. The vet didn't charge us. We all wanted to put the ashes underneath the tree our dog always laid under.

yeah, you could do it, and I could do it (depending on which pet had to go), but most people can't. I've seen some people I never thought had an ounce of love/use for a pet walk away when we put their animal(s) down. You'd be surprised.

for that matter, you could just use a shotgun to shoot the pet- if yo don't mind the mess.

Come on man. That's overkill. .22lr to the back of the skull. Put your friend out of its misery.

They were your companion in life. In my ken you owe them to do the job by your own hand.

My vet has put my last two down. $35 and dog back in a box to bury. However, I have no problem having to break a sweat to dig a hole.

So, you don't want to do the job yourself, you don't want to pay anyone to do it, and you won't bother with 30 minutes of sweat for a pet you allegedly loved for 15 years?

You sound like a whiny bitch. Don't bother getting another dog. Even the evil pitbulls deserve better.

My vet did it for free. It was the only good thing about the process.

It's not a pleasant task but if done right, the end is instantaneous and painless. one quick shot to the head and it's over.

As for disposal, if it's your dog and part of the family, you should at least give it the courtesy of a proper burial instead of paying a vet to get rid of it like it was just a piece of trash.

My dad is a vet and doesn't charge regular clients for euthanasia, be has always felt that if someone properly takes care of their pet it's entire life,(vaccs,HW meds, flea meds, etc.), then they shouldn't have to pay for putting a pet down. It is a terrible experience as it is, people shouldn't have to pay to do it.

That being said, there is a poster called CootKilla, I'd hit him up if I we're you...

We had kind of a bad run with our dogs over the past 6 or so months. The first one was at the emergency vet. On a Sunday morning our 10 year old lab started having convulsions. Monday at 3 am we have him at the vet because he cannot control himself any longer. 6 hours later they reveal that he has a brain tumor. Quote me $1,400 to remove the tumor and he'd need $100/month in meds. We had him put down. $220 - gone +$500 in tests and kennel use.

3 months later we get a mutt from the humane society. She lasted a month. My MIL was keeping her while we were out of town. I was going to pick her up on Monday afternoon. I got a call from my MIL that said the cable guys didn't close her gate properly. Our dog got out. I found her dead on the side of the road. I picked her up and took her to the humane society and they disposed her for a $30 suggested donation.

You may be able to work with your humane society to have your dog put down at a cheaper price than the vet quoted.

This girl I worked with had a old cat that needed to be put down. Once she found out how expensive it was at the vet's office she decided to do it herself. So she smacked it a couple of times in the head with a ketchup bottle. Then buried the cat in the back yard. Told her 5 year old daughter the cat ran away and is not coming back. Well a couple of weeks later her daughter found a cat's tooth in the bathroom. She told her another lie but was not sure if she believed it.
