Edited to add: sorry to hear about your dog.

I have no clue why people think paying a vet to poison your dog to death is somehow preferable to a clean headshot.

clean headshot.

first of all, most people can't make a clean headshot on anything, let a lone THEIR pet. second, euthanasia solution is designed to stop all major life functions at once. So "poisoning" isn't very accurate. Additionally, the vet can sedate the pet if needed before euthanizing it.

Doubt you could shoot your own pet especially if it was moving around.

Pretty much everyone I know has put down one or more of their own dogs at some point. I've had to do it before. It sucks but I feel like it's better that way. Why drag the dog into the vet's office (a place they usually hate and that scares them). Take him somewhere peaceful, say your goodbyes, and put him out of his misery.

that's what my vet did. Sedated her heavily. After he injected the euthanasia, she didn't make a peep, her heart just stop beating. As peaceful as you can get it.

And now I'm getting all teary-eyed over it. dammit

Its actually easy... pour out a little food, and while they are eating, BOOM. Quick and painless. (and cheap).

yeah, you could do it, and I could do it (depending on which pet had to go), but most people can't. I've seen some people I never thought had an ounce of love/use for a pet walk away when we put their animal(s) down. You'd be surprised.

for that matter, you could just use a shotgun to shoot the pet- if yo don't mind the mess.

Dude stop being a cheapass and do the humane thing and put your dog down if it's time. You're paying to have it done right, without pain for it or for you. The price is normally to put it down and have it cremated and the ashes and paw prints sent back to you

$160 sounds about right. I had to do it 2 years ago and it was $150.

you need a better vet. We go to people's homes in most instances. But we usually get hit up for a euthanasia when going to a regular call.

Had mine put down a few years ago. Vet sedated him and didn't charge me a dime. I even got a sympathy card from the office ladies a week later.

That's how you get repeat business.
