They were your companion in life. In my ken you owe them to do the job by your own hand.

i must be the only one here that ever trapped for money. we used to use an old axe handle and club nutria, muskrats, coons, or mink to kill them. It didn't mess up the pelt and the animal died instantly. Unless you missed. then it got a little dicey. Good times when you're a kid.
So Im not advocating bludgeoning your pet to death, but, if properly executed, it is highly effective. and much less conspicuous then a gun
This isn't a wild animal we're talking about, it's your dog, your pet. You don't want there to be any chance they'll suffer. A bullet to the back of the head is instant. Oftentimes a blow to the back of the head, be it from a ax handle or ketchup bottle just isn't. This is especially true if you're not an experienced trapper. I'm far more well versed in firearms than I am blunt objects. I'd imagine that's true for most people here.

Just a suggestion...you may want to dig the hole beforehand. Putting your friend out of his misery can be very traumatic, even if it is necessary. Dig the hole deep enough, put some food in the hole for him (something good, like a steak) and once he's down there...right behind the ear. .22lr should do it but if you want to use a little bigger caliber it won't hurt and once he's in the grave mess is less of a problem.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Oh I agree. I don't think you should beat your pet to death either. Regardless of how compassionately you do it. But most people aren't well versed in firearms either, so Id just spend the $100-$200 and let the vet euthanize it.

Because in a strange place surrounded by strange people hopped up on strange drugs is SO much better.
Old men used to go off into the woods when they knew they were gonna die.

I have no clue why people think paying a vet to poison your dog to death is somehow preferable to a clean headshot.
This ^
every time.
But I would bury it for sure. Not that hard to dig a hole for your dog.

I've seen double that price
Sorry for your loss. And I think having the vet put him down is much more humane. I'd never shoot a dog (try not to say never but feel that's a safe bet)

I mean, I want to die smothered to death by big ol titties...but I'd rather go quick than linger in some damn hospital.

Man, I feel for you and your wife. I went through it back in February. ..I still miss the hell out of my pup. Really really miss her. You and your wife should rest easy knowing you have that pup a great life.

150 is about right.
i paid extra for the crematory and a cedar box with a nice engraving. i placed the box on the windowsill by the spot she would lay out every day.
fricking heartbreaking man.

only time i'd go that route is if the dog got hit by a car or something and is just suffering there. end it quickly.
if you see it coming, it's good to plan ahead. had to do this in may and i still think about her every damn day.

Thats too expensive. Check around because you can bring your dog to the pound and they will do it for free in 2 weeks. I wouldnt pay more than 60 bucks if i couldnt do it myself.

Don't remember being charged by the vet. I was charged by the crematorium.

Cost is based on the size/weight of the dog....

Give Fulsher animal vet a call. We moved ours from Katy out to Fulsher. It's a little further drive but the prices are better. I recently buried my boxer but I have a 3/4 of an acre so I had the room.
I had a small dog (10lbs) put down last year and it was about 130 in the Katy area.
