If you ask me how to pronounce it, it's 'puh/pi-cawn".
However I sarcastically said it as pee-can WAY too much and it has become almost natural; I accidentally say it that way often now and need to wash my mouth out with soap.

I grew up in pecan country (south Ga) and most of my family said pee-can .... since that’s what it is.
