You do realize that these individuals are not only homicidal, but suicidal as well, right? They don't go into these situations expecting to come out alive, and if they do, it's something they decided to do on a whim after they started the actual shooting.

No one who does this makes a calculated decision based upon consequences to himself. Public crucifixion or hanging may increase the number of these which actually end in a suicide, but won't reduce the incidents themselves.

To be honest if some Soothsayer came to me and said that I’d be killed by hanging my question would be “what did I do to deserve that... I mean I guess there are worse ways to go, but I want to make I don’t deserve to be publicly executed? Was I suicidal?” Really hangings as far as a practical death would probably be in the Top 5 next to dying in my sleep, lethal injection, and a firing squad. I’d pick hanging over the chair.

That’s not going to deter literally a single person, and if anything, get more people to do it. “Wait do you mean everyone’s going to come and watch me die?! I’ll be on every network in the country! I get to taunt the families I’ve destroyed one last time! Well this is exactly what I wanted!”

Its really not. We live in the safest time in history, and we have the least crimes punishable by capital punishment in history.

Things have been much more violent in literally every other time in history. People think it’s worse bc the publicity with 24/7 news and technology is a million times more pervasive than it was in the 1800’s. You wouldn’t hear of a murder committed in Colorado if you lived in Georgia. You wouldn’t hear of 10 murders. Secondly, the killing power of weapons today makes the same violent acts and tendencies 50x more dangerous. We’re talking six shot pistols, shotguns, and non-automatic rifles were the available weapons for most of American history. Not only low capacity ammo with slower discharge, but also incredibly difficult to accurately shoot over distances if you aren’t an expert. And we go back even further to knives and swords.

TL;DR. Capital punishment does very little to deter crime, we only think crime is worse now bc the instances of crime are more violent and more widely publicized due to increases in communications and privately available killing power

Need torture and/or painful execution.

Dude, hanging is not one of the worst ways to die. People consciously kill themselves every day by hanging. People don’t tend to go out and deliberately drown themselves, set themselves on fire (except in Tibet), cut major arteries (I don’t count wrist slitting since that’s almost always more a cry for help rather than a suicide attempt), electrocute themselves, get torn apart by wild animals, or throw acid on themselves. They either jump from heights, shoot themselves, poison themselves, drive their car towards a railway, or hang themselves. If you not only threaten them with one of these options, but give them national coverage of their of their death where they can shout at the world, do you really think that’s going to stop a psychopath who has nothing to live for? No, it’s going to encourage them.

You want this to stop this, shut the frick up in saying their names. You sure as shite don’t give them a fricking fair and national coverage of a hanging. All you’re doing is making them look like a martyr and a hero. Congrats for having the worst idea ever. Really arming every teacher is a far better idea than this.
