Psychedelic Zombie Snail shows why nature is terrifying (not for the squeamish)

So I came across this thing while looking up cordyceps (a fungus that turns insects into zombies and then feasts off their flesh.)
Apparently this snail
quote:
What the video is actually showing is a snail infected with a parasitic worm called Leucochloridium. The parasite uses “aggressive mimicry” to make the snail’s eyestalks look like caterpillars so a bird will eat the snail and, in turn, the parasite, and the parasite can continue to reproduce
Reminded me of some parasitic wasps that lay eggs in caterpillars. The larvae somehow know how to avoid all the vital organs as they feast. And keep their host alive until, well...
This
Nature is far scarier than anything we could conjure in our imaginations.

This is easily the most disturbing post I’ve seen here in a couple weeks.

I found a wasp nest in the woods that apparently had been taken over by something very similar to this. Let me dig up the pics.
Well shite, what site do I use to host the pics?

Just think about it.
Pop culture has been writing stories on weaponized zombie fungus and insects for a couple decades now.
Some mad lads are probably trying to weaponize it.
Eventually it'll escape like Africanized bees.
You'll wake up to your kids and wife dying as a wasp soldier or four in camo carapace pops out and makes a bad day for Earth.

As you see here, they intentionally force the hosts to expose themselves before they die to spread their spores and encouraging other things to eat them

I ran across a LiveLeak video yesterday about this. Pretty crazy, nature-you-scary type stuff. LINK
It reminded me of a fungus that infects a species of ants. This particular ant species lives on the floor of the rain forest. The fungus attacks the ant's brain and makes it climb the nearest tree all the way to the top, clamp onto a stem with its mandibles and die. Then a few days later, a mushroom grows out of one of the ant's eye sockets. When the mushroom opens, it disperses spores that infect more ants. It's a bizarre way to make a living.
ETA: I see that cable saw the same documentary.
